Colposcopy anyone?

I have n appointment for 29th July for the above and my anxiety is through the roof

Anyone else had one of these before? Is it painful?

I did a few years ago. I'm not going to lie it wasn't fun but it was ok. I was given a diazepam to take beforehand as I was very nervous, it did absolutely nothing for me but if it works for you it might help. Lots of deep breathing and visualization helped.

I’ve had several. Really no big deal at all. It’s just a cervical exam where they paint your cervix with vinegar and look through a special scope to see the surface. Other than the speculum, totally painless. If it’s abnormal cells you are having investigated, if they see anything, they may take a tiny sample of cells for a biopsy. I’ve had several of those done and it’s like a scratch or a tiny pinch. Really not worth getting yourself stressed about.

I had one yesterday it was the second one in a few months.The worse part is the laxatives which with Pm appointment is 6 am first packet mixed with 500 ml of water taken along side 1 litre of water.Repeat again at 9 am.It tastes foul.You need to be near a toilet this goes on for about 2 hours but it is liquid as you have fasted prior.The procedure is fine for me at least I don’t have sedation,our hospital staff are amazing treated so well.Expect to be therefor at least 4 hours.Reportgiven at the time but biopsies take 6-8 weeks unless urgent.You will be fine.

I had two, they weren't bad, a bit uncomfortable at times but that's all. It was weird having my vagina and cervix visible on a giant TV screen though..

I had one earlier this year. Was sort of dreading it as also read others' experience. I didn't find it too bad, (although have had OGDs and colonoscopies) a bit nippy and uncomfortable at times (more the position I had to sit and the little biopsies punches) but they will chat away the whole time and distract you from it. Depending on where/if they take biopsies, you can be a bit tender or have some bleeding after but it soo passes.
Try not to stress over it, it will be over before you know it and as always better to have this and make sure all is okay. Good luck, not that you'll need it!
