Anyone interested in joining a community art project on maternity care in the UK?

I have just launched a community art project asking mothers, partners and maternity care workers to carve a 75/75mm lino tile in response to the maternity care system in the UK.

Would you like to take part? Every tile I receive will be included(within reason read T&Cs). The tiles will be brought together in one or more large artworks that will tour around the UK in 2027.

To find out more about this project, the art of linocut printing and to get involved

Had my third and final baby yesterday and love this idea! I like to think I'm quite creative however I've tried lino before and wasn't particularly good at it 😅 Do you have any tips which might encourage people who like the idea but doubt their ability with a new (or new ish) craft? Inspiration pics might also be helpful.

I would be interested - my experience of maternity care is not great and both births were traumatic. I have done lino printing before though always end up injuring myself somewhere along the way!

I like this idea - what if we already have lino at home, can we just use that? What sort of places will the final artwork be shown? Will it be free to come and see the artwork?

@aintnothinbutagstring thats great you are warmly invited to take part. I suggest using softcut lino as this is the easiest for beginners. I have a free guide on my website as well, which has some tips on it.

@hollyhocks2 thank you, and yes you can use the lino you already have. As long as its cut down to the right size (75mm/75mm) you can normally cut this down with a basic craft knife. Dont worry if its a bit out or not quite straight.

Everyone who has contributed to the work will be invited to an opening launch night. Venues TBC. My hope is to work with galleries and community art spaces. It will definitely be free in some spaces, but I cant promise that will apply to all spaces, as it wont be my decision.
