Any piano teachers around?

I have started an 'introduction to jazz piano' summer course. The college sipulated that a minmumof grade 5 was required . I have studied the piano since lockdown, and have been given pieces to learn, with some theory attached. But in this particular course I am over my head. Can someone recommend a book with which I can study and play piano theory.? There,s a lot of technical words being thrown around! Tia

Can you give an example of a term you don’t understand? Are they using names of chords etc if you are improvising? An introduction and basic understanding of harmony might be what you need.

Ladies, thank you for you replies. PTS, the teacher gave us so many that 7 can't remember them. There were Greek words describing chords and modes in f. We looked at 'autumn leaves' which apparently has a lot of something important. But you are right, a basic introduction to harmony is what I need, with little written exercises maybe so I can see if have understood. An introduction to basic harmony for dummies is what I need.😆

I have spent my life with classical music and know the theory but I have to say that jazz theory is pretty impenetrable a lot of the time. But then I can only play with music in front of me.

It really is! It seems like a form of higher mathematics!
