Government consults on restricting loudest fireworks for public use

From the London Economic:

The Government has launched a consultation on fireworks to protect families, pets and wildlife.
The loudest fireworks will be restricted to professional displays as part of 'common-sense proposals' announced on Thursday.
Along with restrictions on the loudest fireworks, the 12-week consultation will also look at reviewing the banned list of pyrotechnic products and considering updates to the requirements for lower risk products.
Kate Dearden, Minister for Consumer Protection, said: "Extremely loud fireworks used by individuals at all hours of the day and night has become a nightmare for many communities in recent years.
"The sound of large explosions on residential streets is a cause of fear, disrupted sleep, and does huge harm to our beloved pets. It is a practice that also often goes alongside wider forms of anti-social behaviour."

I think this is a really good idea and long overdue. Fireworks available to the public are a nuisance at best, but I know not everyone agrees.

Good.

I think it is a good idea.
There were some incredibly loud bangs last night near me, though only for a couple minutes. I assume for the very fancy looking wedding celebrations that were happening down the road.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 17/07/2026 05:34

Good. They terrify wildlife and some pets, and many people. The bangs are entirely unnecessary.

EmpressaurusKitty · 17/07/2026 07:16

My cat’s nervous of them and my sister’s dog was terrified.

Hoodle · 17/07/2026 07:20

I wish they’d consult on the nuisance of barking dogs, followed by draconian measures to stop the problem.

good. My cat is terrified of them and thunder (it’s the loud bangs she doesn’t like).

The noise level of dogs barking hardly compares to the noise levels of some fireworks.

Good! We have random fireworks going off here from October to January and it's really distressing to me (autistic) fireworks are antisocial and unnecessary and I would support a full ban for the public.

sunnydayyzz · 17/07/2026 09:49

Yes very good idea, all fireworks you can buy should be low noise IMO.

I also agree that dogs constantly barking should be taken seriously as well. Fireworks are only at certain times a year, a constantly barking dog is going to have just as much if no more impact on people's lives.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 17/07/2026 09:50

Restrict all fireworks to registered displays.
Its not just the noise... its safety as well.

But it happens everyday of the year, at all times. For some poor neighbours, absolutely relentlessly.

I’m not saying there isn’t a case for restricting noise from fireworks, but we really need to tackle the bigger nuisance of dogs first.

Notsodisney · 17/07/2026 11:28

That's good. Some really got unnecessary loud. I love fireworks but there is no needfor that level of noise. Quiet fireworks are amazing.
The most ridiculous ones are the big bangan then tiny sparkle. Like fuck off with that

NewRRS · 25/07/2026 09:01

Thanks I've filled it in and think it's long overdue.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 25/07/2026 09:09

Ban all of them. Totally pointless.
