Space mirrors and reflected sunlight at NIGHT, what could possibly go wrong?

Later this year Reflect Orbital will launch a test satellite, the test is to use giant mylar mirrors to reflect sunlight back to earth, their excuse is to target it mainly at solar farms so that they can make money.

If all goes well the plan is to launch 50,000 of them within the next ten years.

This will very badly mess up the natural sleep patterns of humans, wildlife and even plants (the latter need some hours of darkness too, believe it or not).

So that's potentially yet more night sky pollution, and that's on top of the pending hundreds of thousands of comms and data centre satellites which various nations are planning to launch within the next few years, so increasing night sky pollution with their many points of light (which will be visible in formations within an hour or two of dawn and dusk). Those hundreds of thousands of points of light will outnumber those visible stars that can be seen from any point on earth when the sky is clear.

Is nothing sacred any more?

Why are the small proportion of exceptionally greedy and stupid humans allowed to make even more of a mess of the planet for the rest of us as well as the planet's other inhabitants?

50,000 in ten years is 5000 a year or about one launched every two hours non stop 24 hours a day starting now. But they arent starting now because they only just got permission to launch a test mirror later this year, and they have less that 10.years.because the deadline is 2035. It also seems like the most cumbersome, least practical way to get round the limitations in renewable energy. Apart from every tech bros favourite scam, the Dyson belt.

Personally I'd be more worried about Kessler syndrome than anything else. But TBH the whole scheme feels like a way to raise money than to make things.

These Green schemes become more and more horrific for wildlife and the environment.

It's not really a green scheme.
It's more a techy thing akin to databases in space or bases on Mars.

Is it a “Green scheme”? Besides, I don’t suppose coal-fired power stations, Deepwater Horizon, leaded petrol, the Exxon Valdez, Chernobyl etc were particularly beneficial to wildlife and the environment.

Does anyone know what this does to the earth’s temperature?

As if we're not making enough of a mess of earth now they want to fuck up space too.

I just despair every time I hear about another stupid scheme like this.
The sooner humans realise we can't out do mother nature the better! We won't though, we will just carry on until we destroy everything.
