Please give me hope about my missing cat

My beautiful 1 year old cat hasn't been home for a week. She just went out one morning and hasn't come back. We live in the countryside surrounded by fields. I've put up posters, put notes through people's doors, asking them to check sheds and garages. I've walked around the village and surrounding fields twice a day calling her name, meowing and shaking her treats.... but nothing...

I'm so worried, please give me hope that she's ok and just out enjoying herself!

TIA 😫

Always a worry with cats. All I can say is I’ve had four over the years disappear on adventures and they’ve all come home. One went for two weeks. Fingers crossed OP, it’s a horrible feeling.

My six month old went missing for 48hours and was perfectly fine.

Our old ginger went missing for A MONTH!! Came back like nothing had happened, complaining because his bowl has been put away, big skinny but fine.

All three of my cats have gone missing at various points and come back.

I had one that went missing for six weeks . We had moved house and he went AWOL . We found him five minutes up the road in perfect health but very feral.

Oh OP. That's so hard. I've found that age is prime wandering time for cats. I've had a cat found more than a mile away, and another who was lost for up to 14 days and I'd given up hope (I think she was locked in somewhere). I hope you find her.

Cats are most likely to wander if they aren't neutered esp males . To encourage her home leave out her litter tray. Hope she returns soon

Shedmistress · 15/07/2026 12:44

I'm assuming she is neutered. Even neutered females get chased by even neutered males so she may have been chased by one and is hiding away until they stop. Is there a local pet Facebook page to check if someone has posted that they have seen her?

Glitterbiscuits · 15/07/2026 12:48

My neutered female cat was gone for 11 days. She came back absolutely fine.

Our cat does this once a year at least, and especially around this time. They love the summer and running around outdoors. They eventually just wander in and I’m so confused about where they have gone.

A friend’s cat went missing for 6 months over winter in a London suburb (so busy with cars). He returned home one day, no indication of where he had been.

Maybe consider a tracker when your cat comes home?

FruityFrog · 15/07/2026 13:21

Mine go mad in hot weather and wander off for long periods of time. Maybe try shaking the dreamies at dusk? Otherwise you're just going to have to wait and see if they turn up once the weather breaks.

Hi everyone, thank you for your replies. She's still missing, but you have given me some hope... 💕

If she's not microchipped, it might be worth phoning around vets in the area to see if they've treated her.

Could well be down to the decent weather. A lot of cats go on walkabout/disappear for longer when it's nice. She's may well have found a nice quiet shrub with lots of wildlife at night😬

It's baby rabbit season and that seems to make them lose their minds.

My neighbour's cat went for eleven days this time last year. He was dying of thirst and thin but he came back.

Just stumbled on this as I was looking for reassuring stories about missing cats.

I have an orange cat who went missing for 6 weeks - we think he got in a car during a house viewing next door. He was fine when he came back. A bit skinny.

I was searching for stories today because our timid tortie cat was missing from about 11pm to just now (8pm in Aus). Never happened before, she spends about 23 hours inside. I don’t work on Tuesdays and my daughter and I spent the day looking, DH came home at lunchtime, we’d draped my daughter’s pj tops everywhere, climbed fences, knocked on doors. Our property is enclosed but it’s not impossible she could have squeezed under a back fence.

Anyway, she just sauntered in, completely well. I’m pretty sure it was because she had to see the cat cardiologist today for an echo, requiring being shaved and sedated. My daughter put her bowl away last night and I think she remembered that the last time that happened she was shaved and sedated. She hates the vet.

She’s missed her appointment which will have to be rebooked (mild dilated cardiomyopathy, just being monitored) and I’m 100% sure that was her goal.

Honestly, though, most make it home.
