The Clacton by-election has fully left orbit. Japanese TV has aired a report on it (genuinely — with explanatory graphics). Count Binface needs ten residents' signatures to get on the ballot and his campaign says it's oversubscribed several times over — a waiting list, in Clacton, for paperwork.

Best bits: a kiosk owner has voluntarily capped his 99 Flakes at 99p five weeks early ("Better to be ahead of regulation. I run a serious business"), residents have started putting rosettes on municipal bins, which is confusing the leaflet teams, and a local who's been polled five times "told them all different things. Keeps them honest."
Nominations close Friday. I've never cared about a by-election more in my life.
