Today has been one of the most extraordinary and emotional days of my life, and I’m wondering whether anyone else has experienced something similar.
I lost my best friend to suicide in July 2024. It has affected me more deeply than I can put into words, and today I reached the lowest point I’ve been in since she died. I genuinely felt as though suicide was the only option left for me.
In desperation, I sat down, prayed, and meditated. I asked my friend to come to me if she could.
Afterwards, I got up to go to the loo, leaving my music playing. When I came back, a song was playing that wasn’t in my playlist. It was the same song that was mentioned in a meme I had tagged her in just two weeks before she died.
The timing and the connection completely stopped me in my tracks.
I’m not asking anyone to tell me what it “really” was, and I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything. I know people will have different explanations. All I can say is that, to me, it felt deeply meaningful, and it completely changed how I was feeling in that moment.
Whether it was coincidence, synchronicity, my grieving mind making a connection, or something I can’t explain, it stopped me from acting on thoughts that could have ended my life.
Has anyone else had an experience after losing someone that felt so powerful and so personal that it changed the course of your day—or even your life?
Please be kind in your replies. I’m sharing this because it mattered to me, not to start an argument about what people should or shouldn’t believe.
