Help me survive Wembley Stadium standing area in the heat

I'm going with my son next week. I've never been in Arena standing before. At Take That in Manchester we were seated so I dressed cool but took a thin jacket I hung over the back of my chair in case it rained.

There are bag restrictions. I will be taking a bottle of water (will check if it needs to be unopened or empty, mini sun cream and will be borrowing a cap to keep the sun off me. I am hoping it will be a bit cooler than it has been as I don't like the heat and always try and stay out of the sun.

My son will want to be there for the first support act although we will probably use the 2nd support act for loo break/a break from being outside.

What should I wear that is in keeping but I won;t be sweltering hot but also suitable for the tube journey back if it gets cooler later on.

My normal gig wear of jeans and a leather jacket isn't going to be suitable!

DD was at a gig there at the weekend. By the time it started the standing area was in the shade. She said they have also relaxed the rules about bringing bottles of water.

The worst area to be in was The West facing seats as they were in full sun.

We are pitch standing (no way was ds going to pay for gold circle) so hopefully it won;t be too much of a sweaty crush. I've been watching all the MCR videos with trepidation.

Take a fan too.

Are battery ones allowed? Mine doesn't fit into my small concert handbag so I'm thinking of getting a smaller one or buying a cheap, slightly bigger bag.

I did! Was even hotter. Splurged on gold circle as at HP if you don't you might as well be at home

I took a trad fan. Didn't use it. Just embraced the sweat

I was at mcr last week, it was blisteringly hot but we were allowed to take fans in as well as water bottles. Water was also half price in the stadium and there are refilling stations around both inside and out - there was huge queues for these though!
Overall even though it was hot we had an amazing time!

My son won't drink water (he is ND). He also doesn't drink anything fizzy or alcohol. Im wondering whether I'll be able to slip one of those little squeezy juice things in for him to add to water.

I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be able to take in one of those for squash! They didn’t particularly search my bag on entry, just had me open it and look inside!

Yes, it made me laugh at the Ethiad and also at the theatre that they asked me to open my bag but they didn't ask to look inside my full make up bag inside my handbag.

I have a couple of those that I put vodka in 😬in the bra, one under each nork!

I was at MCR. I was seated to be fair (and not in the sun) but the standing area was shaded. There were free water points in the stadium (we were allowed to take 500ml full bottles in but they must be plastic not metal) and also big tables with cups of water actually inside both seated and standing areas. It was fine. I took a manual handheld fan.

I was there on Saturday - in the sunny bit in seated! - and it wasn't that bad.

Standing was in the shade and their were water points on the floor. You were allowed to take in a full water bottle as long as it was less than 500ml and fans were permitted.

There was plenty of room at the back of standing, people were sat on the floor until the band came on (unless you want to be up near the fence, in which case sweaty crush is unavoidable).

Was at MCR on Saturday as well. We were in seats up on level 5 but the roof provides quite a bit of shade and the standing bits didn't look to me to be in the sun.

You can take a full bottle of water. Queues for the water fountains were really long but they had reduced the price of bottled water to £1.50 and I actually just bought new bottles rather than standing in the queues. Other soft drinks were very expensive though (£4.95 for a 500ml bottle of Sprite!). They didn't particularly search my bag, just stuck a stick in it, so you could probably sneak some juice drops in.

Lots of people had fans including battery operated ones.

Not sure which bits of the stadium you will have access to, but we did manage to find one bar on our level which had aircon and chill in there for a while. A lot of people will only turn up for the main act so it probably won't be too busy when you get there.

The heat outside the stadium was quite fierce in the afternoon (went by coach so we were there from 3pm) but there were lots of shaded spaces that were nice cool.

Be prepared to wait in a very long queue for the tube at the end (or leave a bit early). I was nervous about the heat before going but actually it really was fine. Hope you and your son have a great time.

Here's a view of the standing area from our seats at around 6pm (between the first and second support acts). There was still plenty of space at this point.

You’re only allowed disposable bottles, they took my reusable plastic one and there was a bin bag full of them at the gate.

I was at mcr on Saturday and my seats were in the sun, had to sit inside until the sun moved! It was fine after that.

If I was to go again I wouldn’t bother getting there early, unless you want to see the support act just get there at 7 and accept you will be at the back. Also get the metropolitan line there because it has AC

Yes good point I think they wanted the bottles to be ‘crushable’. They did confiscate my friend’s metal one.

my son really likes the first support act so he definitely wants to be there then but neither of us have heard of the 2nd support act.

on the other hand I’ve discovered some great artists via support slots. And my son himself has been a support act for gigs so I always like to support them.

we are actually thinking of cutting through via Box Park afterwards and waiting til the crowd has dispersed, maybe even going to maccies. We know the area a little as we’ve been to Troubadour & stayed at the Premier Inn. Our hotel is the opposite direction to central London too.
