If you have a wetroom as your main bathroom...

..what would you recommend to make this work and what would you do differently if doing it again?

Main bathroom is tiny. Tiny ensuite in the loft. Kids growing up and don't ever use the bath in the bathroom so thinking we will take that out and put in just a shower.

To maximise floor space and feeling of space, thinking we should have a level access shower with single tile on the entire floor so make it a wetroom.

We don't know anyone who has done this so looking for advice before we spend a lot of money on a tiny room!

You can have a tiled wetroom tray and still have an enclosed shower.. We have a minimal almost entirely glass enclosure and a tiled floor and it makes the space look bigger without water getting everywhere.

I hate wet rooms. As soon as one person has had a shower it is unusable for a long time because everything is wet including the toilet paper. Far better to have a separated shower so others can use the loo or brush their teeth immediately afterwards rather than having to wait for the floor or toilet seat to dry. Imho wet rooms are only great in theory.

The bathroom is currently a bath, sink and shower so i was thinking if we put the shower area where the bath currently is, the spray wouldn't reach, and we could put a shower screen on a hinge maybe so you put it out when using the shower but fold it back when shower is not being used, so there is a bit more floor space?

@Geneticsbunny I had not thought if getting the one level tile across the room but also having a full shower enclosure built. I think DH would prefer this type of thing, thank you.

Just wondering now about fixed screens or hinged. Whether fixed will feel we've missed floor space maximising or hinged will just feel a bit half hearted.

This is pur bathroom in the loft. This is the third bathroom of this style we have had and we love it. Easy maintenance, no glass panel that gets dirty after every shower, and no the water does not splash put outside the shower enclosure.

We don’t have one as our main but in our en-suite, due to husband’s disability. We previously had a low
profile shower tray and a screen but we now have a fully tiled wet room as we need to use a wheeled chair. We don’t want water going everywhere, so we have a fixed screen. The room still feels spacious but there isn’t water spraying all over the floor and the room can be used again immediately
