Swiss mountains in rain ? Any point going ? And 34 degrees heat wwyd?

Hugely (for us expensive holiday ) is there any point going in extreme heat 34 , no air con thunder and rain
The idea was three days in Switzerland and go up some mountains which is also v expensive.
I'm wondering whether to just call it off ,scary driving etc too hot to sleep and can't see anything up a mountain ?
We are flying into Basel so could go into France /Germany instead with better air con ? What would you do.

As I said before, check the Meteo(weather) channel on tv in the morning. It will show livecams from resorts with summer lift access in rotation and where the level for rain might be. The peaks are often clear if the cloud is low. Also your hotel may have a weather forecast at reception and hosts are happy to advise.

There is no way a forecast for mountains in two weeks can be relied on - I know, we have mountains here!

I agree with a pp, you seem determined to find reasons not to go.

I have just read this whole thread and need to know if the op went and had an amazing time!

We leave Sunday ! I have had to cancel the German part because it's going to be 38 there .
We've lost money but unfortunatly the air con is poor and they are only allowed to have it a few degrees cooler than outside.

Leave Sunday keeping Lucerne part as it's cooler there I pray and we are by a lake.
It's the poor air con , all hotel reviews mention poor air con rooms to hot etc.

We leave Sunday too but south of France then French alps and Switzerland for a few days. Ive been before in winter and summer and you will not be disappointed. I do think you have had a bad experience and its stayed with you and made you panic. Please try to relax and lean into it. I am a worrier too but especially with these types of trip you have to go with the flow, and even things that go wrong can become a funny story/memory. We can't control everything. We've already paid for expensive cable cars and if the visibility is zero then so be it!! I am terrified of the prices, we have two weeks in very expensive locations, but planning on using supermarkets. Ive told the dc we cant afford to eat in Switzerland and they believed me 😁.

We've been in Switzerland this last week without aur con, and it's been absolutely fine. Sunny and hot in the day (which is perfect for lake swimming!) but cool at night. And it's so incredibly beautiful here!

Make sure you open all the windows at night - as soon as it's cooler outside than inside in the evening - to get a through draft.

And then as soon as it gets hot outside in the morning (maybe 9am - depending on the day) close the blinds, windows and curtains. Blinds make a huge difference to stop heat coming in. They're usually outside, so you open the window, lean out and close them.

We are flying to Geneva later in the holidays but staying in France.

Aye, we are back in Switzerland now after our holidays now and this was yesterday… it was lovely (but suncream not to be skipped!). You can just make out Mt. Blanc in the background.

I just saw on my coop app that there are free passes for Lucerne Lido and discounts on transport museum and a couple of other things. I am not very good at apps/technology though, but am wondering if you can get them?

I love the lidos (badi?) in Switzerland. My friend has taken us to a few outside Zurich and they are all different and never crowded.

I'm worried today cos we are arriving to Alps via Munich next week for 2 nights and I we just saw the forecast yesterday. We had no air con in our hotel so canceled just before the 7 day payment was due and rebooked another hotel that claims to have air con. Even if it's awful it's better than zero. We planned on lots of walking around and outdoor cafes etc but now I'm feeling very negative about it. The recent heatwave at home left me so lethargic and I can't just get on with it the way some people can

A few years ago I booked a German hotel specifically for air con it was an expensive hotel.
Very weak and poor and as we were leaving I mentioned it and they said ,oh it's the law it can only be a few degrees cooler than outside and the higher up you are the weaker it is !!
So I don't trust them.
On the FB groups im on and on the trip advisor review air con in the resent heat waves is a big theme .
Even portable ones are better than nothing.

@Dontlletmedownbruce also for me unless by a pool and sea with proper air con ,going somewhere for a different type of holiday extreme heat becomes a battle to be won. And I can't win it without my home comfort esp facing it without knowing what you are going to get.
