Could I have handled the comment about my arms better?

I dared to go out with a sleeveless dress. I've lost 102lbs by diet changes & excersise. I've become one of those women I used to judge. Crepy/wrinkly skin on my arms (my whole body is the same). I'm 60yrs old, had 8 kids & whilst I do excersise I was obese pretty much all my life. A very old lady asked if I was going to get my arms fixed. My response was who did yours? I could have handled it better right?

😂 excellent. That will hopefully make her realise that commenting on someone's body is a no no. Especially with a shitty comment like that, even if she wasn't meaning to be rude.

Great response.
People should mind their business.
Also, well done on the loss! Thats great work!!!!

Love your response. Brilliant!!

Fantastic response. Hopefully she thinks before speaking in future.

Well done on your wl👏8, did you say 8 kids 😮
Bet your arms are the least wrecked part of your body. Mines a mess with only 2 😂

I had 4 natural & 4 c-sections so my stomach I own that. I earned the deflated balloon look 🤣

Great response! 👏

People can be so nasty - I was telling a "friend" that a new optician was having trouble getting my prescription right because the vision in my left and right eyes is different and it takes some patience to balance the lenses. She snapped, "My eyes are different - do you think you're unique?"

Twiglets1 · 13/07/2026 18:55

Your response was good. I hate it when people make personal remarks about appearance and her being very old is no excuse - rude old bat.

Fantastic response! I was inspired by a pp on another thread who said she just couldn’t afford an arm lift so she was just going to own it. I wore a short sleeve t-shirt at the weekend and didn’t die!

BananagramBadger · 13/07/2026 20:07

I’m embracing the arms out in this weather, makes me mentally uncomfortable but physically much more comfortable!

I think I’d have gone with “I’d rather my arms than your personality” because people that make negative personal comments are the worst.

maxslice · 13/07/2026 20:09

I think you handled it fine. Cheeky cow! Look into sleeves wonders. Not sure of the spelling. Cool, pretty, even kind of fancy.

Perfect response in my view

This is the kind of response I always wish I could think of at the time. Instead, I'd stew over the interaction for hours and only THEN, think of multiple things I should have said!

What did she say after that OP?

She looked horrified as I winked, smiled & took the last packet of smoked mackerel she was dithering over 😁
