Would you cancel travel to Fontainebleau on Friday?

Due to travel to Fontainebleau on Friday, don't know whether to make a decision now, or wait to see if there's more clarity in a couple of days.

Is this a heat related question? If so they have trees and it's shady!

But personally regardless of the weather ideally I would not be going in July or August but that's more because it's going to be very busy irrespective of the weather.

I would await developments for as long as is practical for you. If it’s movable visit or if you have to decide sooner rather than later, I’d be inclined to cancel.

I'd check French government advice - they have very good, rapidly updated advice on wild fires and heatwaves. It looks like a pretty bad one and the North is less used to dealing with wildfires.

I am about 750 to 1000km to the east. Our forecast currently is for it to become more humid with thunderstorms from Wednesday and for the temperatures to drop from well over 30°c currently to a rather more bearable 26°c. Just be prepared for sudden, heavy showers?
Fontainebleau is lovely, especially if you spend time in the park by the chateau as there is a music conservatoire in the chateau and you can wander around listening to amazingly talents musicians, practising.

I'd give it a miss if the trip is for leisure and you can cancel easily. Whilst I don't think it would be unsafe, it's just the hassle of things like transport being disrupted.

I expect we will see more of this, we travelled through France by train last week - London to Toulouse and the countryside is extremely dry.

My DD lived in Fontainebleau until very recently. It really is surrounded by forest.
Apart from safety concerns there will be huge transport disruption.

I think I would postpone the trip.

What a tragedy! It's such a beautiful place. The fire looks horrendous. 5% of the entire forest destroyed last night. I guess it depends on the reason for the trip OP. If you were hoping to hike or go bouldering in the foret then that it's likely to be severely limited. Hopefully the fire will be out by Friday but there is a huge amount of devastation. Good luck whatever you decide. Having been evacuated from a wildfire abroad I can confirm it is terrifying and I would not hesitate to cancel if I was you. Its not just the actual risk, but the threat of the risk, it stops being a holiday when you start packing cases just in case you get evacuated 😕
