Hi all,
As the title says my baby is newly diagnosed with type 1. He is only 17 months old, I am in a state of shock! We don’t have any family history of type 1.

please tell me your experiences and how is everyone managing with monitoring and managing baby’s blood sugar!
is there any way we could reserve the active beta cells ? Anywhere in UK does this ? Even privately ?

thanks

Sorry you have had no replies.. I've no real advice but hopefully this bump will help.
What I will say is my DIL was diagnosed type 1 at a young age and my... does she live a full life!

Please link in with the paediatric diabetes nurse specialists at the hospital. Worth their weight in gold. Well the ones I work along side are so hopefully your team will be great too. This a huge learning curve for all. One step at a time. Two of cousins are type 1 and lead very normal lives with jobs and children. They were around 8 or 9 yrs old when diagnosed. I work with someone with type 1. The pump and monitor have been revolutionary for her.

It’s OK! I understand it’s a difficult diagnose on a very young baby. I think it’s not common to be diagnosed at that age! Thanks for your reply

Hey I just found this thread and I don’t know if this is helpful but my child was diagnosed just as they turned 2.
I found it so hard at that age so it must be incredibly hard at 17 months!
If there’s anything I can help with feel free to message. It feels so huge at the start (because it is) but a year on we find it more manageable and the pump was a massive turning point for us. We still find it hard with blood sugars at times, especially overnight highs so a lot of insulin adjusting. I think it’s just so difficult to manage in small ones.
