Any idea what this plant is?

Googles suggested both knotweed and mock orange 🙄. I have no idea whether I can cut it back a bit without damaging it, if anyone knows?

Maybe ask MNHQ to move your post to Gardening board?

I don't think it is either of those, by the way. Apps are notoriously bad at identifying plants.

From you pictures PlantNet identifier says...
Blue Honeysuckle

Only a low pecentage identification though.

Lonicera caerulea | honeyberry

It’s not mock orange

TwitTwoodiniEscapeOwlogist · 12/07/2026 14:52

Maybe a buddleia

lucysmam · 12/07/2026 15:10

Hmmm, it's not blue honeysuckle, I don't think - there are two honeysuckle in the garden & the stems don't look remotely similar.

Glad to see it's not knotweed - there is masses of bindweed doing my head in & a healthy helping of brambles 🙄.

I don't think buddlia either - there are no flowers at all & nothing that looks like a flower bud.

(I've just noticed my foot in the pics - sorry about that 🤣)

My mock orange looks a bit like this.

BluTangClan · 12/07/2026 15:28

Some kind of willow?
We have this (pic) coming up in our garden at the moment.
Plant ID says ours is an Eared Willow, but I think it's a bit too different to yours.

It's probably a rogue tree ...

redfairy · 12/07/2026 16:22

common dogwood?

McZeba · 12/07/2026 16:28

My Picture This plant App says Late Lilac

lucysmam · 12/07/2026 17:02

@MsGreying I think you might be right. There is another plant in there that I'm not sure of - maybe this has taken over its spot. My dad wasn't sure either - he suggested cutting it back & identify the other one. If the other is a "proper" plant, then keeping that.

An elder ?

lucysmam · 13/07/2026 07:33

No, I don't think it's that either - the leaves aren't serrated & no flower buds.

I'll try and identify the smaller plant later on.
