7yo wet the bed at a sleepover.

My 7yo had a bedwetting accident last night during a sleepover with two other boys. He is mortified, crying, and saying he’s never going to sleep over at a friend's house again.
I’ve told him it’s okay and that it happens, but he is too upset to hear it right now.
Does anyone have advice on what to say to a 7-year-old to help ease this level of embarrassment? How can I help him rebuild his confidence over the next few days?

Oh, poor boy. How did the host parents react were they discrete?
Just constant reassurance that if they are friends they won't care i think is all you can do.

He's absolutely devastated, it's horrible to see.

It sounds like you're handling it well by reassuring him that it's something that could happen to anyone his age. If he wants to not think about going on a sleep over for a while, it may help him to hear that's ok too and he doesn't need to worry about that right now. Revisit it with him when he's feeling less upset. I think it's one of those awful situations where he will just feel really upset and embarrassed for a few days. Maybe plan something nice to do with him to give him something else to focus on.

Hopefully the parent's of the other boys will speak to them about not teasing him or spreading it around at school. If you think this is likely to happen, I would prepare him with some things to say in case anyone brings it up. Perhaps give the teacher a heads up in case he needs to make them aware of other kids being unkind or gets upset at school. That way he doesn't need to go into detail and they can hopefully nip it in the bud.

This happened with one of ds friends he was about the same age. I reassured him all was fine we all do it at times. I know he reacted on a similar way and his mum was really upset

a few months later he was back for a sleepover 😊 one of many. I was a little stricter about calming down and trying to get to sleep earlier (without mentioning the bed wetting of course l)

I think you have done what you can, these things happen. One thing that works in your son's favour is that it's the end of the school year (or already the holidays in Scotland) so if it does go around school, it will forgotten quickly.

If he doesn't want to talk about it, let him have some space.

He's in bed now. Thank you all, he's calmed down but is still dreading school. He's so unlucky, it's been a year since he last wet.

How did the host parents react? You haven't answered that question. Do you think the host child is an unkind blabbermouth?

The dad called to let me know that my son had wet the bed. They were honestly so kind and understanding about it and even lent him a pair of pyjamas to change into, for the last few hours until morning I really appreciated how lovely they were about the whole thing.

I don't know if the two boys will keep quiet, the dad did say he's had a word with his son about it, so I'm hoping its not mentioned.

Wish you luck today, hopefully he went in and it's all going okay.

All went well today. I'm really proud of DS, it took so much courage to go to school.

It will all be forgotten when he returns. Hopefully now things are back to normal and he's wanted another sleep over soon.
