I live in a city and there are lots of e-bikes. I am very pro-bike and e-bike in general but in my area many people have modified their e-bikes to go very fast and some don’t even have pedals so technically not even legal or be classified as an e-bike (they have to have pedals). These are ridden similar to motorbikes but without registration and proper licensing.
There are gates in the park for cyclists to get through so these bikes can get through. It just feels very unsafe for the users of the park. They go incredibly fast across the paths / grass. Today I was at a junior park run and there was a group of runners and their families all gathered around and one of these bikes came bombing down the hill at 30/40mph if I had to guess and narrowly missed the crowd of people. I am not sure what can be done. There’s no way of tracking these bikes and by the time we call the police they’re long gone. We can’t change the
park gates because then normal cyclists won’t be able to use. Anyone have any suggestions, please?
