Issue happening right now. Question, can tamulosin assist a catheter to work?
Elderly relative - catheterised for 12 months (TWOC didn’t work). Enlarged prostate (had one for a few years.) for which he was out on tamulosin.
Numerous issues with catheter over the year and has had to changed a few times outside of the 3 months cycles because of blockages, not draining etc. Has been stable with it for about 6 months (no out of sync changes needed).
According to medics he is difficult to catheterise.
Following a cat 1 BP event almost two weeks ago (bed bound, got up and np dropped, seen to by nurse who called ambulance), the GP who came out to visit the next day took him off BP meds and also his tamulosin. Re the tamulosin, GP said he doesn’t need as is catheterised..
8 days later (so earlier this week), his cathear wasn’t draining again. Two attempts in community followed by ambulance to hospital. Two more attempts in hospital followed by a urologist who did it immediately (with a T shaped catastrophe I think is what they said).
Today, again not draining, pain has started again. Community nurse not able to insert another (has tried), another nurse is on way out. I suspect they will call ambulance again.
I think he will end up in hospital again. (I’m not with him, someone else is.)
But my question is this, would going back onto the tamulosin help?
Asked previously in hospital but advised by other relative that doctor wouldn’t commit.
I just have a feeling the tamulosin may help (I’m not trying to extend his life but the pain he’s in from water retention is horrid).
I want to know if we should be pushing it (the tamulosin question).
Also, m unsure if important, has had an upset tummy for a day.
