Has anyone used a temporary filling before seeing the dentist?

Help - my filling has come out! Has anyone used those emergency temporary fillings? Are the ok? If I can see the dentist on Monday are they easy to get out? It’s really sharp and typically right in the front.

I have thought about using one but didnt. Try and wait till Monday. They will put something on it temporary.

Yes, my partner did. He's a bit arty-crafty and did a good enough job that the dentist complimented him! For some reason, maybe covid times, he couldn't visit the dentist that quickly and it certainly worked in the meantime.

My husbands filling fell out during eating when we had got through security at Heathrow and were about to board a long haul flight 😳. We went to Boots and got a temp one and boarded the flight, it stayed in for the whole duration and we got an emergency dentist appt at our destination! So yes they do work as a temp measure.

A friend used one when we were travelling in a country where you wouldn't want to visit the dentist. Stayed in fine. Just try not to chew on that side of the mouth.

I use it fairly regularly as my fillings come out quite often due to a medical issue with my jaw that can mean they get knocked about a bit. I just shove it in and bite down. Try to level it off as best you can, which will probably pull it out a few times as you try to do it, and don't eat or drink anything for as long as possible afterwards. If you do it well it can last for ages. If you do it badly or if its on a tricky angle then you'll have to keep applying it/topping it up. But its better than leaving a hole that can be damaged further and it helps if its hurting a bit from being exposed. It is a really useful product for me though.

Every time, I also have some that fall out often. Once for months at the start of covid - I think I had to redo that one a couple of times.

I brush very gently around the hole first to make sure no food is in it and usually use antibacterial mouthwash before putting the filling in, just in case.
