How do I get an odour out of a suede sofa? (Warning, cause of smell is a dead mouse)

Best not to read if you are eating…

I noticed an odd smell in the kitchen earlier in the week but couldn’t find the source of it. As I was doing the cleaning this morning I pulled the blanket off the sofa that we have in the kitchen, and inside the folds of it was a dead mouse (probably courtesy of my cat). The blanket absolutely stinks, and there are 2 patches on the sofa where dead mouse fluids have obviously seeped in, and that stinks too.

It’s a one piece suede sofa (or at least it looks like suede, I got it second hand), with no covers that can be taken off and washed. It is usually covered with a blanket, so I’m not too bothered if any washing methods stain the sofa itself, but how can I get rid of the smell??

I’d get it professionally cleaned.

Do you have a spot wash type carpet cleaner? I’d give that a go especially if you’re not fussed if it causes any discolouration. Or ask if any friends or family have one you could borrow?

White spirit or petrol. But don't light it.

Sprinkle a v thick layer of bicarbonate on the stain

I would think you’d need an enzyme cleaner suitable for suede material, wait until it dries after cleaning, sprinkle baking soda on it overnight and hoover the next morning.

Enzymatic cleaner from a pet shop (or online). The only thing that got rid of a dead rat smell in our attic was a rodent smell remover. It was amazing. A sachet thing so you could tuck it in the sofa.
