Ipsos have actually polled it: Britain would rather Count Binface won Clacton than Farage

This is a real poll by a real pollster. Ipsos asked 1,000 British adults who they'd prefer to win the Clacton by-election: Count Binface 33%, Farage 21%. (Neither: 32%.)
Even better: 54% said Farage "should resign and leave parliament" — only 16% backed the resign-and-stand-again thing he's actually doing.
The finance site that "endorsed" the bin last week has now initiated formal coverage of him like a stock:

Their rating is "OVERWEIGHT (the helmet alone)", and they note they can't audit "Neither" (on 32%) because Neither hasn't published a manifesto, "in what we are beginning to recognise as the standard arrangement."
Polling day is 13 August. I can't believe this is where we are, but honestly? The bin has my blessing.

Well Farage looks actively unpopular with the country, but it’s still up to Clacton.

It’s the money though, people don’t like politicians who look like they are on the take. This 5 million quid story is just a huge easy headline which doesn’t have as easy an explanation

The poll is interesting and I'm all in favour of Count Binface, but alas, it doesn't matter in the slightest what Britain as a whole thinks. The only opinions that matter are the voters of Clacton, and they elected Farage last time, with more than 8k majority.

There's no reason to suppose they won't do so again, and frankly, if I were a Clacton voter right now, I'd be pretty resentful of the way the media is portraying me and the rest of the country is talking about me. And that might well make me cast my vote in a way that would piss everyone else off.

As per the other posters, it's up to Clacton. Binface is a novelty act and everyone loves one of those - maybe it would have a different result if the other person standing was from one of the main parties? Either way, it's going to be an interesting result! (Binface 🤞)

My sensible adult dd asked me yesterday how come they allow him to resign from his job as MP for a constituency, force a by-election, and then immediately reapply and stand for the same seat again.

She said the rules shouldn't permit that sort of thing to happen - once you've resigned as an MP that should be that, and I agree with her.

For most people this is a joke, for the people of Clacton its their MP. If you had mould growing in your rented flat, would you want the help of a comedian who dresses as a bin or a well known politician, that's the choice they have to make.

Farage has shown the people of Clacton he can’t be arsed with them day to day but would use them to make a point ‘against the establishment’ so they probably would be better off with Binface !

The people of Clacton should be raging that they are being put in this position. It's not fair. Their MP should be representing them, not fancying around like Farage is.

But they voted for him last time, they'll probably vote for him again this time.

Easy. How often has Farage been in Clacton or even Parliament in the last two years. The bin guy is politically astute and I would suspect might be an excellent constituency MP.

I think Farage has shot himself in the foot. Many reform supporters objected to the Makerfield machinations and this is the same sort of nonsense.

At the same time Farage is hanging out with all of these super wealthy people in America but is clearly not interested in getting any investment into Clacton.

Your probably right, if so I wish he would take the bin off and say what he would actually do. I just feel sorry for the people of Clacton, with no real choice while the rest of the country enjoy the joke.

It’s well known that Farage has done sweet FA for his constituents. He’s hardly ever in Clacton and apparently has never bothered to hold any surgeries.

I should imagine that Farage maintains some kind of office which people can contact for support?

I’m 100% team Binface but Id be fairly pissed off with them both if I were in Clacton.

There might be a very low turnout though, which is an opportunity.
