Her big brother appearance was far more recent than that.

My point is that the last time BB really captured the nation was possibly around 25 years ago, just because it is on TV doesn"t mean it has massive cultural significance any more.

Oh I grew up with her as part of British politics, be it party politics or general.

Often the attention I paid her was to vehemently disagree with her! Eg as a cradle Catholic myself, I wasn't impressed when she and others who had apparently been perfectly happy in the CofE suddenly converted to RC to avoid women priests.

But she was impossible to ignore. She was part of my intellectual life whether I wanted her to be or not. And I suppose still is, since here I am talking about her.

No one on TV is impossible to ignore, you can just switch the TV off, I know a few people who have not owned a TV for many years, they basically don"t have a clue about half the stuff that people are focussed on from minute to minute.

I was really glad about the time given in the House on Monday as celebration of her life.

A fitting monument.

In fact, a link from your link states;

^'The i Paper has learned he was offered a taxpayer-funded bodyguard, car and
trained driver supplied by private contractors.'^

'Supplied by private contractors' - which suggests not armed.

'The source said: “My understanding is he demanded something akin to what the Home Secretary gets and was denied it and therefore can claim that he was denied proper protection.”

Elsewhere, ITV stated;

'As expected, the prime minister, home secretary and defence secretary are all given state-funded protection and armed bodyguards.'

One assumes then, that Kemi Badenoch/Leader of the Opposition does not have armed protection as a matter of course, perhaps only for high-profile events?

Edited

He is not a Home Secretary or a Prime Minister so having armed security at events is plenty. The leader of the biggest opposition party in Parliament manages with that, so there is no reason he should need more. He really is not that “special”. Besides, he opted for private security which is 100% unarmed, including public events. So he in fact downgraded his own security.

As far as politicians go, he is very "special", do you honestly think any of the present front line politicians could have achieved what he has starting with a new party? Change is controversial, with controversy comes risk, he definitely is more on the radar of nutcases than many politicians would normally be.

He has not achieved anything at all. In the last local elections over 60% of people DID NOT vote Reform. The councils where Reform has been in control, are in shambles. So much that in Worcestershire Greens formed a coalition with Tories just remove Reform from power 🤣🤣. He is so successful that more people would prefer to have Count Binface as MP than him 🤣🤣🤣.

The only thing he managed to do is to gather groups of yobs screeching “turn the boats”
And of course he managed to make himself richer. He is just a grifter. A weaker copy of his idol Trump.

The Greens have been a party in one form or another for 50 years, why are they not running the country?

Dunno, don’t support them, never have. The point of my post was that the tide is turning. Unlikely coalitions are being formed to keep Reform out of power. In my town, the areas which were under a threat of falling into Reform had a turnout 10% higher than anywhere else. The result - Reform lost every single seat they were predicted to win. We are still proudly Reform free.

palona · 16/07/2026 11:49

Maybe Farage doesn't want official security as they would find out what he's talking about and to whom, and will know where he goes and what he does.

Does anyone know the wording of the charge?

murasaki · 16/07/2026 20:47

It's not been reported. Is this normal for Scottish law, I don't know? It seems odd to report a charge existing without saying what it is.

SKY etc. don"t seem to be covering it vey much now, if she was a member of a party other than Reform would this be different? Iran is getting fourth or fifth slot on the headlines as well which tells you all we need to know about what they want you to focus on?

Being an absolute clown with no reality filter in charge of a social media account?

Has anyone seen the latest, that Ann was eating lunch when she was attacked and he hit her with a hammer 21 times? Vile bastard 😢

just appalling

i am unsure why we needed to know the number though

Superhansrantowindsor · 21/07/2026 18:09

It really was horrific. I have just heard on the news he left with her purse but I can’t see how that’s the motive. Why would he travel all that way to rob an elderly lady? I feel very sorry for the poor gardener who found her. That must have been very difficult and traumatic.

the80sweregreat · 21/07/2026 18:13

It is shocking. I really can’t imagine why anyone wouid want to do something like this. Totally senseless.

MauriceTheMussel · 21/07/2026 19:24

I‘m glad we know the number - now we know it was a frenzy and draw conclusions about that appalling man
