Free Street Parking in/around Brighton

Haha, yes, I might as well be asking for the moon on a stick.....you can stop laughing now.

DD2 has been gifted a car, and she's desperate to have it. Unfortunately for her, she lives in central Brighton, in the same parking zone as The Lanes, and although she applied for a resident's permit a couple of months ago there's a 10 month waiting list.

She can't afford a private permit (car park next to her flat is £176 a month).

So she's looking for somewhere on the outskirts where she can safely leave the car overnight etc. Maybe a quiet residential road? It will of course be a bus ride away. She works out towards Hove/Portslade, so ideally somewhere west, beyond the reach of parking restrictions.

Any ideas, Brighton/Hove residents?

Wrong side but BN2 has some free parking off the main road.

has she got an insurance quote? I'd think parking it permanently on the street and not near her address would drive the price up a lot. There no parking permits in Westdene area, easy to get the bus there from North Laines

We're getting a quote, but it isn't going to be cheap!

Can you keep it for her until she is able to get a resident's permit?

Well, we could....but we're miles away. She wants to be able to use it to visit her boyfriend in Kent, or when she comes home for a few days.

It's not exactly convenient for her having it parked 3 miles away from her home, but that's better than it being on our front drive. She just needs to find a little spot....

Search Just Park website and find rentable spaces.

Perhaps she can negotiate a long term space with a property owner?

Edited

£100 a month....and STILL 3 miles away from her flat.

Everyone cycles in Brighton. Swap the car for a nice bike.

She'll have a job cycling to the Kent coast to stay with her boyfriend! She normally takes the bus everywhere (pretty comprehensive in Brighton) but it's the longer journeys that she wants the car for. She spends a fortune on trains, and has heard the word "Rail Replacement Bus" more times than she cares to mention.
