Considering a shorter haircut as longer hair feels too much currently

I was trying to grow my hair long for nearly 20 years. It never happened for me. 20 years ago I never knew about haircare. I thought it was a case of wanting long hair and letting it just grow. For a long time I abused my hair in my ways like going to bed with wet hair. I learned in recent years that's a big no because hair is fragile when it's wet then you're tossing and turning on it and not only that it creates mould issues with pillows and bedding. Awful. I also at one stage owned a hair straighteners and I vaguely remember about 2011 time using it on wet hair.

I learnt a lot about haircare since about 2019.

I was able to grow my hair to approx bra strap length but then the ends would be so thin and straggly, I would have to get a good trim.

At Christmas time, I was looking in the and I mirror decided - you know what, it's not growing long and it just needs cutting off. I booked a haircut for Janaury. I went to my shoulders and it was so good.

Since then, I don't really focus on length any more. I was with my hairdresser In June for highlights and I asked for a trim too and he was relucant to give me a trim because he was saying my hair looks very good now and he said it didn't need a trim. He gave me a small tiny little trim. A dusting.

Since cutting my hair in January I really think my hair is in a better place now. It is currently a few inches past my shoulders. It's around about my shoulders blades now.

I think maybe if I was to continue, maybe I might reach my long hair goal next year. My goal was bra strap length preferably with thick and healthy ends too. I think maybe I might be able to get there next year, possibly.

I have a small little issue.

Lately I am feeling depressed. It's not about my hair length. It's other things. Over the past few months, I would get out of bed and there's days I cont even comb or brush my hair. There's days I don't even change my underwear. I am just feeling so bad sometimes. I know what's causing it. It's situational. I work in care and sometimes the days can be so long and demanding. I live at home with a parent and I think she is going senile. So there is just no switch off point from other people's problems and demands. I think I am approaching a place of burnout. Possibly.

I am just depressed. I hardly have time to focus on myself sometimes. Sometimes I get out of bed in the mornings and sometimes I don't even have time to brush my hair.

I was watching tiktok last night and I saw a video of a hairdresser giving a lady a cut and it looked so good. It was cut to the shoulders with face framing layers. I really liked it.

I am half considering just cutting my hair again to my shoulders. I would nearly even consider even a shorter cut perhaps and to go for a boyish short look. Just get so much length off so I don't need to look after it.

What do you think? Anyone ever do similar? Cut their hair so they don't need to look after it.

This is disapointing for me to write because I love haircare and hair masks and having nice smelling hair. I usually do try and make time for a good hair wash twice a week and I do enjoy my haircare. It's just the every day maintainace of having longer hair.

I have supershort hair because i hate having to do things to it.
But you said you normally love it.
The problem isnt your hair, it's that you are depressed and burnt out. Can you make an appointment to see your GP? Get some time off work?
If having short hair would give you a boost and make you feel good, go for it. It's only hair.

Thank you. I want to get time off from the doctor. I really do think I am approaching a bad place. However my work has me booked for a week live in very soon. I don't want to let them down but I am approaching a place where I can't cope.
