The only person standing between Farage and Parliament is a man with a bin on his head

Every major party has pulled out of the Clacton by-election. Labour, Tories, Lib Dems, Greens — all refusing to stand. Which means the only real challenger to Farage on 6th August is Count Binface.
A finance site has done a completely straight-faced "endorsement" of the bin, they've examined his register of interests ("it contains a lid, we inspected it, it closes") and costed his 99p Flake price cap ("regressive, but at least it exists").

It's somehow the most sensible political analysis I've read all year, which tells you everything about the year. Is this the most 2026 thing imaginable or have I lost it?

Trending Sheet endorses Count Binface for Clacton

In a two-horse race between a man under parliamentary investigation and a bin, we examined the fundamentals. The bin presents better.

If I lived in Clacton I would definitely vote for Binface!

Clacton deserves a candidate who is clean. Count Binface is, at minimum, wipeable.

With matey boy binface as a candidate, it’s kind of buggered up saying “Farage can get in the bin”.

I vote in every election and I certainly would never ever vote for Farage so I would vote for Count Binface.
I heard a wee interview with him on the Today programme yesterday and he is certainly no fool.

What a brilliant endorsement.

Britain has a long history of standing up to divisive rhetoric by using humour and mockery. Look at how Oswald Mosley was treated, humour was used to make his posturing look ridiculous, not powerful and intimidating.

Same with Farage, none of the other parties are standing. Farage will argue this is because they are scared. But it does make his resignation and the re standing look more like a stunt (that it is ) and having to campaign against a man in a bin outfit will just reinforce that idea.

As Rachel Reeves said - “But if he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won’t stop him.’’

SomeoneIsWrongOnTheInternet · 09/07/2026 08:19

There are times when I still have hope for Britain. Binface is it. Excuse me, Count Binface. 😀

I think it's a very funny situation but people have to be careful because comments like that from reeves of all people make people dig in more.

Farage does have a large countrywide base for a new party what they have done is extraordinary.
Ridiculing him ,mentioning his name like a foul smelling burp doesn't do them any favours.
It's like gordons brown biggoted woman comment, Thorneberyy white van man comments and all the rest.

And if we look to the states, ridiculing trump and his fan base....look where that got the smug commentators !

BeasKnee · 09/07/2026 08:30

No one is standing between Farage and parliament as he is already in parliament (or was until his attention seeking resignation). What an absolute waste of time and money.

GotALionInMyPocket · 09/07/2026 08:33

Come on Clacton - please vote Binface 🙏🙏🙏

Ormally · 09/07/2026 08:37

That is a pretty cast iron point, where every other party candidate who was attracted to a political path in life ran away, yet this one took a step up to stand.

The heatwave might drive quite some support for the 99p cap on flake ice creams.

SamAylward · 09/07/2026 11:03

Sensible policies for a sensible Britain!

[Gold star if you know where that comes from!⭐]

Agreed, it's a cheap trick and not even an original trick.

John Major did it first, and then he had the decency to only resign as Tory leader not as an MP, so saving the country the cost of a by-election.

I have scraped better things than Nigel Farage off of the sole of my shoe.

Like Farridge, you need to get over yourself.
