TRY THIS to cool your bedroom down at night

I wish someone had told me this sooner, so I am sharing with MN in the hopes it helps someone else too.

If your bedroom is too hot at night, open the window and place a fan on your windowsill facing outwards. It pulls the air in from behind it, pulling the hot air from the room.

Do this as soon as it’s cooler outside than in to cool the room down before you go to bed.

I was skeptical but it works really well.

A window open and a fan on helps, not sure if facing the fan outside is better.

I read that too. They suggested facing it the other way, into the room will bring cooler air in.
But they also say to keep windows shut on the sunny side of the house, which I don't do. I have them open, black out blinds pulled halfway & blackout curtains drawn shut & that seems to stop our bedroom from getting boiling hot.

I tried this and it didn't seem to make any difference at all

It does work but you need two opposing windows and to position the fan about 2 feet away from the open window you’re blowing it out of.

I can confirm that this is currently working in my daughters bedroom which due to being south facing and in the eaves has been hotter than the sun all day 🥵

This has brought the temp down rapidly in her room now that it’s marginally cooler outside.

This is the way! We don't have any opposing windows upstairs, but we do fans pointing in on one side of the house and pointing out on the other to try and help generate a through-draught.

I tried this last night, because my bedroom was 30 degrees at 11pm and I can attest that it doesn't work! Placing the fan in front of the window and facing it into the room, however, does, because it pulls the cool air from outside into the room. The temp in the room was still 25 degrees though this morning, so really it's just bloody hot whatever you do!

Disappointing it’s not worked for everyone. In my experience it works really well if your fan is positioned well. Might be worth another try and it works so well for us!

It also works for me. Takes a bit of time and patience, though. Also yes, the placement of the fan is very important.

It’s so hot outside at night here, it doesn’t make any difference. Nights generally start cooling down in august where we are, so hopefully it will work then!
