What keeps you awake at night?

Ughh like many people I'm struggling to sleep in the heat, my mind wanders and I think I mull things over too much. None of my worries are unusual but still

  1. My Dad and my aunt, both in their 80s and live far away, I feel endlessly guilty, I should spend more time with them but it is so far and I only get 25 days holiday a year, I took 14 days and went out but conscious that is not a lot.
  2. My brother, his work which is impacted by the Iran crisis, he has just done a house renovation and is pretty stressed.
  3. My husband who is semi retired on his 50s worried he is wasting his talents and risks getting depressed.
  4. Two friends have recently been bereaved
  5. My DC and what they will do with AI impacting careers, they are both lovely people, but not especially sharp elbowed.
  6. The Enviroment, climate change, the cost of all this new tech, mining, water in the fiture
  7. My pension, should have saved more in my 20s and 30s.
  8. Looking older, I woke up this morning and I had spent all night in my side and my face looked creased it didn't bounce back for at least two hours despite cold water washing.
9.The cat who doesn't eat a lot in the heat and is old and skinny 10. The house is untidy, minor but annoying. 11. The plants in the garden wilting in the heatwave. 12. Houseplants in the heatwave, I don't want ro over water even if it is tempting

My crying children.
That’s all really.

Anewuser · 08/07/2026 16:29

My adult son having seizures, particularly in this heat. And, who is going to care for him when I’m dead.

Minasama · 08/07/2026 16:30

Work deadlines

Minasama · 08/07/2026 16:32

Adding to this, the phrase “control the controllable” resonated with me. None of this is within your control so try and make a conscious effort to think about something else. You’ve got tons of time to save more for a pension, pointless worrying about what you didn’t do in your 20s.

Nousernameideaaga · 08/07/2026 16:33

Worrying about the children. From the moment I found out I was pregnant with them until forever, I guess

BlackeyedSusan · 08/07/2026 16:39

Ds. Bloody noisy nocturnal teenager.

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/07/2026 16:43

  1. why the SEN education system is so fucked up in this country.
  2. diabetes.
  3. my cats being dickheads at 3am.
  4. That mispronounced word I said 10 years ago (happens a lot due to my disabilities I mispronounce a lot of things.) keeps me awake thinking people must think I’m an uneducated idiot.
  5. Nigel Farage V Binface in the Clacton by election.
competentadult · 08/07/2026 17:04

My sick mother.
My stressed out, permanently irritated husband.
My student son's job prospects when he's graduated.
My own apparent inability to get a new job while AI destroys my current profession.

shhblackbag · 08/07/2026 17:07

My gran. She's unwell, slipping away so slowly and quickly at the same time.

lordbaddingham · 08/07/2026 17:10

Farage v Binface is the only light relief I have! For me it's money, mortgage rates, job security and how to keep my job, health, how we will pay for uni for the kids, whether my youngest will sit/pass eleven plus and if not where will he go, pension too low and should have matched employer contributions for last twenty years, what an idiot I was not to do that, how I've put on a stone and look like shit, my car needs new brakes and need to sort that out... I could go on ...

yonem · 08/07/2026 17:11

Heathrow noise (we are 25 miles away but it’s noisier at the moment than usual)
Bladder (pregnant)

Catsandbooksaremybag · 08/07/2026 17:14

The bloody fans at the back of the shops before my flat
Their security light which goes on every time someone is within 20 miles of it
