DH serves dinner….

Is anyone else’s DH incapable of serving them dinner and the cutlery handle remaining clean? Every meal he hands me he’s managed to drip the cutlery in the meal, or get his foodie mitts all over it. Anyone else?!

No my DH has a a fully functioning adult

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/07/2026 17:43

No. That sounds extremely odd. We both manage to produce meals without making a mess.

Zippidydoodah · 07/07/2026 17:43

Sounds gross.

I'm struggling to imagine how this happens.
Does he lob food in the general direction of plates and hope for the best?

backformoreofthesame · 07/07/2026 17:49

It’s normal to put cutlery on the table before the plates are set down

DameOfThrones · 07/07/2026 17:50

Why doesn't he (or you) just put the cutlery on the table?

PashaMinaMio · 07/07/2026 17:50

So while he’s dishing up, you go get the cutlery.

If you eat off trays in front of telly, you prep the trays with cutlery, napkins, condiments etc.

If you eat at the table, you lay it.

Swap this task when you’re cooking.

Team work.

Napkins? Does your butler fold them into fancy swans for you?

It's kitchen roll in our house 😁

I once managed to fashion a sheet into a middle finger, and balance it front of my DH's plate.

I am no longer allowed to serve food after cooking it, as I dish up like 'a prison dinner lady' according to my family.

I slop it onto plates, over plates and onto the table.

I genuinely don't know why, but they are correct.

Ha ha! That is fabulous. I might dress like that next time I call them for dinner. 😂 Apparently I have done this for years and they have not complained, just quietly scooped chips etc off the table and back onto their plates.

I'm now ancient, have brain fog and apparently remind DH of Godber in Porridge.

Haha yes this is exactly what it’s like.

I take time and care to plate up. We do take cooking in turns, and he’s a good cook. Mess in kitchen I don’t mind - 100% he needs a do not add cutlery order 😂
