Anyone else following Arthur Fery's impressive Wimbledon run so far?

I'm really surprised that there are no threads about the wonderful Arthur Fery! He has done a fantastic job at Wimbledon so far, and yet nobody on MN seems to be interested enough to encourage him. I hope he can go all the way, but I doubt he can beat Sinner or Djokovic just yet! Come on, let's cheer him on, not just the football players.

Yes. I watched the match last night. There might be a tennis thread somewhere on the telly addicts board.

Brilliant match, worthy of a final ❤️

Summerhillsquare · 07/07/2026 14:03

I haven't warmed to him overall. He's been calm to the point of insouciant in his matches and his play can be a tad reactive. In the fourth set yesterday that cracked a bit and he got fired up, much to the better.

There’s a whole ongoing thread about The Tennis in telly addicts - come and join in

@Summerhillsquare the same has been said about so many players the last few decades, Tim Henman etc. I grew up in what I think was tennis’s heyday. McEnroe, Borg, Connors, Ashe, Cash, Evert, Navratilova, Vilas, Becker, Billie Jean King etc etc. Now these were entertaining players with big personalities! My favourite was Ilie Nǎstase. Everyone seemed to know who all these people were. Now I couldn’t name the top five mens players and maybe one of the women!

Yes, impressive stuff. Watched the first match and was following yesterdays. Plan to watch the next match.

it was an amazing match
and saturday's went the same way.

He's done so well, especially he's come through as a non qualifer.

igelkott2026 · 07/07/2026 16:34

I heard about it on the radio this morning although I had an Andy Murray moment when they said he was the first Brit with a wildcard to get this far in any Grand Slam.

Didn't Emma Raducanu have a wild card the year she won the NY Open?

First MALE Brit!

Wildcard for Wimbledon 2021, yes. Got to the 4th round whereas Fery is in the quarter final

No, not a wildcard. She was the first qualifier to win a grand slam.
So what they said about Fery is correct.

She had a wildcard for Wimbledon the year that she won the US open, and got to the 4th round.

Yes but Fery got to the quarters. So he is the first Brit, male or female, to do that.

Edited

I really don't understand what you're saying in reply to me!

I know that he's got to the quarters (and now the semi) as a wildcard and nobody else British has done that. I've not said that he hasn't, or that anyone else has?

My point that you're replying to is that Raducanu received a wildcard to Wimbledon the same year that she won the US Open.

I'm not saying, and neither was @igelkott2026 that she received a wildcard for the US Open. I'm not saying that she got to the quarters at Wimbledon - she got to the 4th round & retired injured against Tomljanovic

Anothernameretired · 08/07/2026 18:00

He's been brilliant - what a performance today!
