What small things make your life feel nice at the moment?

Lighthearted. In all the doom and gloom what makes your life ‘nice’? What do you look forward to? what makes you think ‘I have a nice life?’ Or ‘when everything else is shit at least I have this’

obviously your children or family might make you feel like this so they are exempt lol.

For me it’s finally having some solid furniture after years of Ikea for the kids to scribble on or break. I’ve never been able to afford solid furniture when the kids were younger. I look at it and it makes me smile.

I also enjoy that half hour in the morning I can have a cup of tea before my youngest teenager summons me back to ‘where’s my skirt? I’m starving’

What about you?

A really effective and quiet electric fan in the bedroom so that it’s comfortable to sleep at night in this hot weather.

ArticWillow · 07/07/2026 15:51

Knowing that I only have to tackle the food shop & dinner menu every other week. DH and I take turns, its such a relief.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 07/07/2026 15:51

Finishing work, going for a swim and putting on clean cotton shorts and baggy t shirt. Bliss.

Came to say this! Foldable and light for travel.

I have just discovered the flowers that didn't seem to be coming out, only bloom in sunlight

SunnyFawn · 07/07/2026 15:53

Sleeping with the windows open. We have a through draught which is delicious.
The birds singing in the early mornings
I finally decluttered three rooms in the house this weekend and deep cleaned and it feels lovely.
my dog
The teens helping with the gardening now they have finished their exams

I've got into the habit of putting out a new reed oil diffuser each season to match the season. I just bought a pumpkin spice £5 one from Next which I'll put out for Sept, Oct, Nov. Then a new Wintry one for Dec, Jan, Feb and so on. If the old one isn't used up yet I move it to a different location. Little things please little minds 😀

Yellowpapersun · 07/07/2026 15:54

My ceiling fans in the dining room (hottest downstairs room) and our bedroom. I just love those big blades!

WinterAconite · 07/07/2026 15:54

Also I love my little garden bursting with flowers

Iliketulips · 07/07/2026 15:59

I've been opening the front, back doors and windows up early, and the last couple of days that's really cooled the house down, which feels really nice for a while

I love Wimbledon and the main four players I'm interested in are still there. Also, a decent coffee out.

OP, I know what you mean about furniture. We have an awful mix in our dining room that everyone sees. Other things taking priority right now, but will hopefully replace soon.

Decent fans with remote control.

FunwithChums · 07/07/2026 16:04

@tartyflette please share the really quiet fan deets!

my nice little life feeling is triggered by the geraniums in my front garden, they flower and flower all summer long, and as I walk up the path to my door I feel happy I have flowers greeting me, I love them. Reliable, easy, there every summer.

ikeepforgetting · 07/07/2026 16:05

M&S peppermint creams, kept in the fridge where they go all fondanty. I am eating an enormous number of them though!

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 07/07/2026 16:08

China earrings, vintage floral ones, that I match to my outfits and the season.
A mocha when I get in from work.

SaraHoliday · 07/07/2026 16:47

A chilled cool pillow
A drink with ice
Air-con - anywhere
Good conversation/company
Floaty summer dresses
Tasty salads on flatbread for lunch at work
Holiday planning
171 days until Christmas! 🎄 (Love the build-up)

Would you mind sharing the make and model? We desperately need a quiet fan as ours is so noisy. It’s only marginally better than a hot bedroom.

DressingGemma · 07/07/2026 17:49

Ooooo these are all nice things!

  • writes peppermint creams and a new fan on shopping list lol

The weather and the sport.

Papyrophile · 07/07/2026 19:43

The lavender bed is in full bloom and the bees are all over it.

For @Loveacadburyscreamegg we have two quiet fans: one Dyson (bought in a moment of wilful extravagance, but now justified after 12 years valiant service) and a tower Dreo from Amazon. We also have one that sounds like a jet taking off but it quickly cools a large south facing space, and can be turned back down. Air to air heat pump in the kitchen also provides AC.

Those and a wafty loose dress or shorts keep me comfortable. Iced coffee, then Botivo and fizzy water for mocktail moments.

FedUpCelery · 07/07/2026 20:25

The flowers in my garden and also my tiny strawberry patch.

The brand new swimming pool in our town. It's so clean, fresh and nice.

worldshottestmom · 07/07/2026 20:27

Even when everything is shit, which it always is, at least I have garlic bread.

MrSchubertWhiskers · 07/07/2026 20:29

A large g&t in the evening. I'm not much of a drinker, but in this weather it's lovely

Having my health - I've finally recovered from a series of nasty injuries

Yoga

Watering the tomato plants after work, slow peaceful work with a glass of wine.

Sleeping with the windows open

Waking early, taking a coffee back to bed and listening to birdsong.

Not having to wrap up against the cold. I love summer 😊

I need this printed on a tote bag 🤣.

GameOfJones · 07/07/2026 20:44

Mine is the Libby app. Audiobooks completely free from the library.... I still think it's utterly marvellous! I make myself a drink, put my headphones in and go to sit on my swing seat in the garden and be read a story.
