Any experience? NHS help for raised self-harm scars?

My daughter is 17 and has extensive self harm scars on her arms and it affects her every single day.

It's been over a year since she SH and she massively regrets what she did :(

There are a couple that really bother her, they are large, raised and purpleish and those are the ones we are hoping to get treated somehow?

I want to take her to the GP to see if she could get help but don't want to make an appointment and have her show the GP her arms if theres not actually anything they can do, I think that would be quite difficult for her to deal with right now.

Is there anything available on the NHS for scarring?

I did look into private treatment but it is very expensive and they said she has to be 18, not sure if that is the case with the GP?

Or should I send them a message asking if there is anything available in this situation before I bring her in?

You can ask but I think it’s very limited in what they offer it for I.e. restricted movement something along those lines. If I was you I’d get her into a good routine, cream and scar tape. You can also look at massage to help. There’s a massage therapist near me who offered to do scar massage on my neck following surgery (she tends to do it for c sections) you might be able to find someone there. It takes time a year isn’t that long healing for a scar. Makes sure she religiously applies suncream too

I’m sorry I don’t have any nhs info experience but just wanted to recommend a gel which was used by my son on a very bad scar on his hand, it’s expensive but worked very well… Kelo-Cote, you can get it on Amazon or in Boots in a couple of different sizes. Good luck x
