Are the seagulls near you noisier than usual?

They're squawking from 4am to late evening here on the NW coast. Its breeding season and bloody hell, don't we know it! I love seagulls though 😀

No seagulls here but we have had some very noisy crows over the last few weeks , lucky I like them .

We have exceptionally noisy magpies🤷‍♂️ never known them this bad, it sounds like they are arguing a lot! Geese have quietened down now though, presume mating season over, they were starting at 4.00am right behind my bedroom😳

Not seagulls but the other ones that look like them but bigger. They are hungry and eat mice, other dead birds, pick apart garbage outside. Wondering if there aren't enough fish in the sea?

Its mating time and lots of baby seagulls about learning to fly etc with the whole flock cheering them on 😀

Yep seagulls moved onto my street about 5 years ago when the council bought in gull proof sacks . They’ve picked the highest houses in the road to nest on and that house now has lots of vegetation growing on the roof . Year by year their numbers increase . I do like them but hope they don’t pick our house - though yesterday one was checking out the conservatory roof …. They are bloody noisy but do bugger off once they've finished breeding .

They are always noisy this time of year. We have 2 “teen chicks” we can watch on neighbours roof. In their TRex stage. They are getting louder too.

Octavia64 · 05/07/2026 20:16

No.

the crows are right noisy buggers though,

WonderfulSmith · 05/07/2026 20:17

We have seagulls but I’ve not noticed them being noisier.

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/07/2026 20:17

We also have magpies, pigeons & loads of small birds around here.

Quite a vibrant suburbia

I live in a small seaside town and seagulls are everywhere and noisy all year round.

But I think you might be right about them getting even louder lately and as people have already commented it has to do with the season, chicks and so on.

Some very noisy seagulls early this morning, but not as noisy as the sheep in the field next to our house. They are so noisy! Adorable though.

Ribenaberry12 · 05/07/2026 20:29

Yes! We’ve got lots of nests in the chimney pots down our road and can see some of the little chicks already. We were keeping an eye on the nest closest to but the chicks in that one didn’t survive the heat last week.

littlbrowndog · 05/07/2026 20:30

Herring gulls on our roofs have their baby’s leaving their nests.

it’s been a challenge as a baby is in the back green but bird people said the parents and guards will feed it and keep cats away till the wee one can fly off

the parents/ guards were swooping us but hopefully the baby will be gone tomorrow

The budgies are very noisy this evening. They like the hot weather.

RobinEllacotStrike · 06/07/2026 14:01

I've been watching herring gulls on the neighbours roof for 8 years. Its incredible what the chicks have to endure. usually there are 2 chicks but a few years there have been 3 - one dies after a week or 2, though this year the third chick was older when it disappeared - I was starting to think all 3 would survive.

they are noisy fuckers but I love them
