We're cracking out the bbq today and it's always made me ? why just cos it's a bbq we need so many more choices

Normally dinner would be a burger or some sausages or chicken
But for a bbq we've got all 3

Tbf we might well have leftovers and Im still capable of picking what I want on my plate but it does seem the norm the minute you mention bbq you need a lot more choice - oh and ALL the sides (burger buns, hotdogs buns, potatoes, salads lol)

We don't but we use the BBQ most days in the summer so it's just like another oven. We're having jacket potatoes, salad and chicken thighs. Yum

I only do loads of choices if we’re hosting a barbecue for family. For just us I usually only do one choice and some side dishes.
Tonight however we do have chicken kebabs and lamb koftas because I didn’t fancy lamb and DS didn’t fancy chicken.

You don't, your just choosing too. Which is totally fine.

We just have one protein and some suitable sides but our bbq is gas so not a big event to light it - when we had a coal one we would tend to cook more to utilise the fuel.

DH has just popped out to put some M&S beef kebabs to have with spicy rice and salad , last night we had chicken tikka burgers.

The novelty will wear off soon and covers back in for another year

I imagine it’s just that if you don’t use the bbq, you feel like you have to make it “worth it” by not doing only a few burgers.

I had this revelation a couple of years ago and we now have ‘normal’ meals but on the BBQ! Yesterday was marinated chicken with salads and today is burgers and chips - makes it so much easier

Too late to edit, what I meant was “if you don’t use the bbq often

We’ve been using the bbq lots this summer, both for meals and entertaining. Not really sausages, drumsticks or burgers, but lovely normal meals. My favourites are a side of salmon (or just fillets), spatchcock chicken, marinated bavette steak and a leg of lamb in middle eastern spices.

Sides are normally roasted baby potatoes, green salad, Caprese salad, roast vegetables or grilled asparagus.

When we had loads of teens over the other day we did lots of sausages with baguettes, onions and homemade bbq sauce which was delicious.

Thos evening we’ve got chicken supremes marinated in garlic, chilli, honey, thyme and bay. With roasted Jersey Royals and roasted veg. ‘Smores for pudding 🙂

Like others, when it's just us, and a regular dinner, we just cook a regular meal, but on the BBQ. So steak, salad and new potatoes or souvlaki, salad & flatbread, or grilled marinated chicken with corn on the cob etc.

When we host a party, we have more choice and more dishes (rarely burgers and sausages though, as we're not a fan.)
