If you disliked your home/where you lived, how did moving change you?

A bit of context, my children, our dog and I were homeless, my family gave me £4k to buy a house using a shared equity scheme. I bought the first house that accepted my offer.

The kids and I HATE the house and the area. I feel stressed everything I park or even when I step outside because of the traffic noise and litter everywhere. We are completely isolated from friends and family, and have to drive everywhere. I HATE driving now because of the speed the cars use on our street.

But the mortage is cheap because I pay 60% which helps with financial strain.

Can anyone please share stories of how moving away from somewhere you didnt like affected you? Even if that meant financially you were worse off? I'm so scared of making a wrong decision I have frozen and we are 2.5 years down the line.

Lived in a functional but extremely ugly house which we bought for its central location and huge garden. Served its purpose when DC were little. Moved to a rambling country house in middle of nowhere and LOVE IT. A great party house for all the big milestone birthdays, gorgeous garden and sooo pretty. We also have three times the space which has been amazing. I never believed i would ever live somewhere like this. Have to drive everywhere and there’s a lot of upkeep, but we couldn’t be happier. I would never have believed changing houses would have such a massive impact on my contentment but it has. On the downside we have a lot less disposable income, but it’s a sacrifice i was willing to make.
