Cheap eats near the Royal Court Theatre

Where on earth can I get a cheap and quick dinner before a show at the Royal Court Theatre?
Have been to Comptoir Libanais and it's OK, but a bit overpriced (and yes, I know it's Chelsea, but I live in a neighbourhood where that kind of food comes quite a bit cheaper, so I resent it!)
I'd like a quick pizza place, like the much-missed Franco Manca or a by-the-slice place, or a Mexican chain for a burrito or something. There is a Five Guys, but while DP and I aren't veggie we try to avoid eating meat when out, and they have little in the way of veggie or even fish options.

Waitrose?

Shoxfordian · 02/07/2026 11:52

There's a cote which is usually reasonable

Waitrose?

As in grab a sandwich and find a park bench? Or is there one with a cafe?

There is a café in Peter Jones but I would sooner eat on a park bench in the current weather!

They don't have the prices on the website Confused
I presume if you have to ask, you can't afford it Grin

If you set location to sloane square, you can download a menu with prices

Shoxfordian · 02/07/2026 12:21

Mains are about 20 quid but you are in Chelsea

The Bar Below at the Royal Court itself is a pretty good place to grab something. There's also a Bread Ahead on Pavillion Road that does pizza and sandwiches.

It's weird that Cote doesn't have prices. It tends to run £30ish/pp I would say. Obviously you can go over or under depending.

There's also a little Japanese cafe near the south ken tube - Tombo. They do very reasonably priced poke and ramen type stuff if that's of interest.

Thank you. The Bar Below menu doesn't appeal; I love Mexican, but it's either chicken or beef, or totally vegan. I'd love fish, or an option to have cheese etc.

Bread Ahead closes a bit early, unfortunately.

Thank you. Looks nice. It's a bit of a walk from South Ken though, when rushing to get to the theatre on time and full of food!
I'm leaning towards just doing Comptoir Libanais again. It's nice and it's close.

If Cote is a reasonably priced quick bite place, I live in an alternate reality.

In your circumstances, on a nice evening, I'd buy a "nice" sandwich and have a picnic.

I know what you mean!

I'd like to be very near the square, though, so I don't have to walk far/fast while full of food, and I don't really like Sloane Square for sitting in.

A picnic sounds lovely. You can take it in fold up bags and then put them in your handbag once you be finished the picnic to go on to the theatre. You could take a thin blanket too and sit on some grass somewhere if theres anything like that round there.

10 - 15 mins walk down the Kings Road, and there is a Pizza Pilgrims - better than Franco Manca IMO

Not really, just Sloane Square I think, which I'm not that fond of.
