A parking one, with pictures.

I prepaid for parking online, which reserved a space. When I arrived at the car park there was only one space left. Due to the blue Tesla not being far back enough in its own space, the only way I could get into mine was at an angle which left my rear wheel over the line.

The sign said you must park within the space lines, or risk a fine of £100.

I had to catch my train, so took a picture and hoped for the best.

What are the chances, and if I get a fine, should I appeal?

You could have straightened that up, sorry. Hope you don’t get fined though.

Malinia · 01/07/2026 14:43

You could have easily straightened up and got into the space properly. You might well get a fine and you haven't a leg to stand on, sorry.

SowWhatNow · 01/07/2026 14:44

I think you could have straightened up although it might have been awkward. Is the empty bit next to you also another space? Or just a void?

Either way fingers crossed!

onmylastnerveseriously · 01/07/2026 14:44

No she couldn’t, not without unecessary risk to hitting the Tesla.

op it will be fine as your back wheel isn’t in anyone else’s space.

theemmadilemma · 01/07/2026 14:44

I see absolutely no reason for the angle your car is at? The back being at that angle has done nothing to give you more room to get in or out of the car. In fact you'd almost want it closer at the back and slightly wider at the front.

I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve with that angle.

onmylastnerveseriously · 01/07/2026 14:45

To the posters who think she couldn’t straighten- look at the width of her car, she’d be blocking the Tesla

How do you know for sure it definitely isn't a parking space next to the OP though? Tesla drivers are renowned knobs so it wouldn't surprise me if they parked over a space temporarily.

Edited

It’s to do with not hitting the Tesla, not getting out of the car

Because OP clearly says Tesla is in a space.

Ah yes, just re read it. Another Tesla driver being a knob then.

CelticSilver · 01/07/2026 14:50

It was a void, and I couldn't have straightened up due to the closeness of the blue car. There were inches between the rear fence and my bumper.

It looks like the knobend of a Tesla driver didn't park in a space at all, so hopefully any parking attendant will be so happy at giving them a ticket, they will look kindly on you.

OP's car isn't that long. If she'd gone in to her space forwards then she'd have been able to get it to sit neatly in her space. Admittedly it would be a tricky manoeuvre to do backing in to the space.

My car is a 7-seater - it's longer than it looks.

I wish I could have taken an aerial picture. The front of the blue Tesla was definitely over my line.

You haven't actually got a fine though? I really wouldn't worry about it.

Technically, if you get ticketed and use the excuse of not being able to park within the lines because of the blue Tesla’s parking, I doubt the company would care. All they care about is you either parking correctly or not.

VividDeer · 01/07/2026 15:08

If they issue a fine they are proper arseholes.

2dogsandabudgie · 01/07/2026 15:09

Hopefully you won't get a ticket but I would have taken a photo of the blue car which clearly shows it being over the white line for that parking space.

user293948849167 · 01/07/2026 15:14

I don’t think you will, you’re not blocking any other spaces or blocking anyone getting out

BringBackCatsEyes · 01/07/2026 15:27

I would take lots of photos and also put a note on the windscreen.

Only an absolute jobsworth dick will give you a ticket for that.

HideousKinky · 01/07/2026 15:46

I think the fact the next space is a void area means it's not a problem - the sign threatening a fine if your car is not within the lines is to discourage people from parking carelessly and encroaching on the parking space next to theirs.

I think you underestimate parking attendants!
