How to I track a flight?

Type the flight number into the search box

lucysmam · 01/07/2026 13:59

I realised eventually it wasn't showing me a map because it was still sitting at the gate - as soon as it moved there was a map

😂We've all done that at least once!

lucysmam · 01/07/2026 21:20

We'll see if I remember this tomorrow evening when dd1 flies back 🙈.

Makes sense.

It's generally an Air Traffic requirement that aircraft only start transmitting the sort of data Flightradar eavesdrops on from just before engine start until just after engine shutdown.

There's also the possibility, though it's less frequent these days, that at some more remote airports Flightradar won't detect/display an aircraft until it's airborne.

Good luck this evening.

Also bear in mind that FR has some spots where the locations don’t register.

freaked me out the first time I tracked DD’s flight and it disappeared from FR for half an hour!

DanFmDorking · 02/07/2026 12:30

@lucysmam - If she's landing at Heathrow (and the aircraft are landing on the Northern runway) you can watch her land on the

Good Luck

All very interesting, thanks for the info/help.

@DanFmDorking I'm fairly sure she's flying back to Stanstead but will check.

She's just gone through security & is currently wandering Duty Free with plans to watch arrivals/departures through a window for a while.

With today's weather Heathrow should have switched to landing on the southerly of their runway pair (27 Left) after 1500 UK time so that video feed in the link probably wouldn't cover her arrival in any event.

lucysmam · 02/07/2026 15:44

@notimagain I guess that's why she is slightly delayed now.

She is heading back to Stanstead.

you get the app then using your fingers zoom in near the airport where its landing or taken off, then click on the different planes that show up so you can find the plane you need,

Musicaltheatremum · 02/07/2026 16:24

I love this app. Had a situation last year bothy children were flying at the same time! Great fun tracking them.
