Starbucks reward app - does anyone understand?

So I use the app and collects the stars, after a while I get gold status for 12 months. Since then I have been awarded gold status 3 more times but it’s only been in the space of about 3 months. Surely if i got gold it lasts for a year? When did it go away for it to come back?

The Starbucks App can be a bit crappy, it has syncing/display issues, I suspect this is happening as the App may temporarily be showing whatever you previous status was, then when it refreshes/syncs correctly it congratulates you again with the “You’ve reached Gold status” notification, making you think you’ve been rewarded again but in fact it just the initial reward status.

Its the closest drive thru coffee place near me, so i shamefully spend too much time there, I’ll often open the App and my Star balance with be zero or the closest store location section will show the last place I was, I just force close & reopen it & usually re-syncs.

I don't really understand it either. But the staff told me last time I was there that I had a free drink and another four going forward. So it's obviously adding up. I just don't understand it. But I will take the free drinks 😀

You accumulate points as you spend - 1 point per 10p

130 points you get a free basic drink (like a tea or Americano)
300 for a food item
500 for a free fancy drink (latte, etc)

At 2500 points (£250) you reach gold. It lasts a year.

if you reach 2500 points again within the year it refreshes gold membership to restart from that point.

So if I initially hit gold in April it should run out in April next year. But if I accumulate another 2500 points by October it rolls forward to October next year.

if you’re not yet gold it’s worth saving points to get to gold as you get free birthday drinks, all your extra shots are free as is syrup and whipped cream. But once you’re gold you don’t need to stay above a certain number of points to retain it

That makes all of the sense, It’s just restarting! So I have a year from today rather than a year from when I first got the gold!

Thank you!

I don't think the app is as good, or as clear to follow, as it used to be; but it's still better than nothing.

I spent a fortune at Starbucks when they had the Java Chip Frappe. Since they stopped selling them, I hardly visit and I lost my gold status. I sent them a nice message saying I wish they'd bring back the java chip frappe; they could check on my account how much my business had dropped since they made the change. They sent a nice response (basically tough luck, nicely) but did gift me 1000 stars, which accounted for several free drinks. So complaining is sometimes worthwhile 😅

I see you have answers about the gold. Are you making sure you claim your free drinks with your points? You can use the points for merch now too.

The only thing I don’t like about the app (and shopping apps in general) is when they change the user interface. Muscle memory had me knowing exactly where to tap and sometimes when the layout changes it confuses me 😆
