You think you’ve seen everything, then you see someone vaping…

actually inside the gym!!!
I mean, really?! The gym is one big open space with some side sections but no internal doors separating the different workout spaces. There’s one high table with a few stools as you walk in. I was walking from one end to the other past this and and saw clouds of vapour. I then realised one (maybe more) of the bloke sat at the tabid was vaping. I mean, WTF? They looked a bit intimidating and I’d take a guess that they were doing it to show they were “hard” knowing no-one would challenge them. It’s a big place but there aren’t that many staff around, I’m not sure if the one or two instructors who were there would have been comfortable confronting them.

Some people are just utter twats, aren’t they?

Is it forbidden by the gym?

I would be very surprised if it wasn’t?! It’s a Gym Group gym, so a big chain not a small local muscle gym.

So you should have gone to reception

so yiu didn’t bother to mention to them because you didn’t think they’d do anything?

EmeraldRoulette · 29/06/2026 21:23

@jammiepodger that's grim

When I lived in London, I know there were issues with a 24 hour gym that had some guys coming in and smoking weed in the middle of the night. You run the risk when it's unstaffed though.

I didn’t go and say anything, no. There was no way the people working there would not have seen them. They were front and centre.

I have seen kids vaping in the swimming pool changing area at the local leisure centre.

I wouldn’t consider nor need to go in the middle of the night!

The gym will have had cctv
and all you needed to do was tell reception them that someone is vaping
they’ve been allowed to get away with it so chances are they’ll do it again
so next time… report them if you see it 🤷‍♀️

It's very useful for shift workers and so on

But the people I knew who tried to go at night, the fact that it was unstaffed was a huge problem.

Anyway, I would be really annoyed if I saw someone vaping at the gym. Hopefully they'll tackle it next time. Or hopefully they won't be a next time.

I find the idea of a burly bloke smoking vaping candy flavoured nicotine to look hard slightly ludicrous. Not sure it has the effect he wants!

But generally, confronting anti social behaviour is risky, so what can you do.
