Sleeping in the heat. Is there something wrong with me?

It's hot. Most people can't sleep. I'm not one of them.
Normally I sleep under a 4tog duvet (shared with DH) and a single 10 tog on top of that. It can take me a long time to warm up when I go to bed. Late spring, normal summer, I can drop to the 4 tog.

In winter, once I get warmed up, I can sleep nicely, but hate that everytime I, or DH, moves I get a cold blast of air.

In the recent weather I have been able to sleep nearly naked with no covers and my whole body has been lovely and WARM! I realised a few nights ago how weird it was to be able to move in bed and not get a cold blast of air. And so nice to not have a heavy weight on me, (which I thought I needed - it seems I don't!). This week has been a revelation!

Is this how everyone else (like my DH and teenage boys) feels normally? Am I strange to need it that hot to sleep? Is there anyone else out there like me?

“”Most people can’t sleep”

says who? I slept like a baby throughout

socks1107 · 29/06/2026 20:06

I’ve slept beautifully through the heatwave, missed my alarm two days running!

Aposterhasnoname · 29/06/2026 20:09

I’ve had the best sleep I’ve had for many months during the heatwave.

You sleep with 2 duvets? Is your house a mumsnet 16° usually or something? I'd be seeing a gp if you're so cold you need 2 duvets outside of a heatwave and your house is a normal temp.

Honeyhonayboo · 29/06/2026 20:09

Not everyone is the same, I love sleeping in the heat. I keep a 15tog winter duvet all year round.

MysticHalfWitch · 29/06/2026 20:09

I sleep better in the heat too.

lightreflectingonwater · 29/06/2026 20:10

I was the same as you. I struggled in the day but slept well in the heat at night

Ok. It's not just me then!

Everyone else I speak to thinks I'm crazy when I mention sleeping well.

Was beginning to think there is something wrong with me!

I've been waking up and opening the curtains to let the cool air in. Except I face east so have to get up at 4 to shut the sun out. Then the dog comes to say hello at 5 , so actually I haven't been getting a lot of sleep.

We don't have the heating on at night.
I'll have it on morning and evening at about 23° but I don't think it ever actually gets that warm.
Is this something that might be medical? I am usually cold. People say put on a jumper, but I'm usually already wearing 2 and a vest and t-shirt and feel like the Michelin man!

So presumably you have slept well during high temps loads of times in previous years

and this thread will reassure you that you aren’t alone

I’m sure they don’t OP!

I'm the same as you OP, but my husband, kids and everyone in my office struggled to sleep in the heatwave!
