Has anyone taken a short solo holiday in the sun?

Has anyone done it? Im so tired and fed up and really want a little three or four night break in the sun. DH can’t get time off work, friends all have plans with their own families. Would the bad bits (eating alone, getting from airport to hotel alone) outweigh the good?

Done and loved it. 4 nights away menorca. Sunshine. A boat from. Chatted to a few other hotel guests but mainly read books and took the local bus around. Go book and enjoy.

Book a package with Tui or Jet 2 or similar and they will provide transfer from airport to hotel. Personally I would go for adults only all inclusive. In fact, I think I might book a trip now!

I love a solo fly and flop

PashaMinaMio · 28/06/2026 22:41

Yes I’ve done it more than once.
Last most recent time was TUI to Tenerife.
I got chatting to other people which was great and I walked around the restaurant to fetch my meals from the buffet, as if I owned the place. (No point being a mouse or a shrinking violet!)

I wasn’t bothered about trips, I just went between pool & beach, took walks beside the sea East and West and chilled. It was fab.

I’ve travelled alone a fair bit and really enjoy it. TBH I like eating alone and most of all going at my own pace, whether that’s spending hours at one museum, lying motionless with a good book, or doing a rapid swing through a place and deciding it’s not for me that day. Just do it. Life is short.

geraniums111 · 28/06/2026 23:14

Yes several times.

Eating and alone and travelling alone to the airport are good bits too! No compromises, no worrying about anyone else, go at your own pace... It's all great

I’m thinking about booking a few solo sunny days in September. I’m single, my friends have plans with their families or can’t afford an extra break, are teachers and neither of my 2 young adult offspring fancy it. I’m desperate for a change of scene and some time to relax so think I’ll have to suck it up and go alone. Don’t mind eating on my own, have travelled by myself to several places before but am just wondering how to put sun cream on my back?!

garlictwist · 29/06/2026 04:24

I do it a lot. In fact I’m in Slovenia now. I like holidaying alone. I can do what I want when I want. There are no bad bits apart from you have to bear the costs of accommodation etc alone because it’s just you so it’s a bit more expensive.

sashh · 29/06/2026 05:44

Go for it.

I have not done any sunshine solo trips but I have done a lot of holiday trips solo.

I quite like to eat on my own, my favourite is to have a table near a window on to a street so I can people watch.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 29/06/2026 05:52

Yes I do it regularly and enjoy it. Not having to compromise is great!

There will be other solo travelers and I never feel awkward. Just book it!!

Brightbluesomething · 29/06/2026 19:24

I also did 4 nights solo in Menorca last year. Really easy to get around and plenty to do, or not if you just want to relax.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 29/06/2026 19:32

I don’t mind eating alone or traveling to airports alone!

Tumbler2121 · 29/06/2026 19:38

Malta works well. I went alone but had three new friends for the week by the time we left the airport!

LondonMum2026 · 29/06/2026 21:02

Following for ideas

OhFeyreDarling · 29/06/2026 21:10

I did a week in Gran Canaria solo a couple of years ago and loved it. Went bed and breakfast with Jet2, transfer included.
If I was doing it again I'd do a city break so there's a bit more to do and public transport to other places.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePleaseBarista · 29/06/2026 21:19

I follow The Thistle Edit on Instagram and she is just home from a Pilates trip to Italy that looked amazing.
I have done a few solo trips in the UK but only ever for two nights. I would like a solo trip to relax for a few days in the sunshine one day.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 29/06/2026 23:16

I did it when exhausted with 3 young kids at home. 3 nights, I slept, walked, and enjoyed every minute. I sat alone in restaurants on the street side to watch the world go by or drank alone in the hotel bar watching a band or sat with my book when there was no where else to look. I loved it, would love to go again

GrizeldaMcBain · 05/07/2026 18:01

Thanks for all the replies. I keep deciding I’ll do it, almost booking, then deciding I’ll do it later. . . what a wuss.

How about Palma in Mallorca. As it’s a city break as well as a beach holiday. And it’s very near the airport.

Malaga is a similar set up too.

I am now daydreaming about pastries and coffee at Finka in Palma.

Zoopet · 05/07/2026 21:48

I'm going to France in September.
Hotel in Nice.
First time solo.
Apprehensive but determined to go.
Need a break!
