Sponsoring a school uniform

The local community wardrobe organisation is having a "Sponsoring a school uniform" appeal so children can have a new uniform to start the school year.

Nicer for kids than starting the year in second hand stuff.

Did there used to be school uniform grants?

Absolutely no need to start the tear in new clothes unless they've outgrown their previous uniform!

Unless they are starting a new school it seems odd to me because my dc only had new uniforms as outgrown and only from supermarket/m&s unless logo clothes. We weren’t short on money but don’t believe in waste

I wouldn’t be donating to that one either. Like others have said, mine only got new uniform if they had outgrown their old stuff and even then most of it got handed down or donated.

Agree pp unless changing school there is no need to start in a new uniform. recycle and reuse. This only seems to an obsession with star schools, in private child everyone tries to get to the second hand shop asap or passes stuff on. Grants are also given to those in poverty so I‘m not convinced this is the best use of money.
