Hi, coming on my first visit to Manchester (live in Edinburgh). Will I need a jacket for evening or is it warm enough to stroll about in a shirt? Also any recommendations on nice areas to wander about with teens. Thanks

Yes at the moment, plus a waterproof.

Really? I haven’t worn a jacket in Edinburgh in ages. Maybe it’s a different interpretation of what is warm though!

It’s cooled off a lot today and intermittently raining.

If you think your interpretation of what is warm or cold differs to others not from Scotland then look at the temperature on a weather forecast and decide whether you think you need a jacket or not. Only you know at what temperature you feel the cold.

I have a weather station here in the western suburbs and in the last couple of weeks the daytime maximum temperature has varied between 13C and 33C, and the overnight minimum between 6C and 27C. It also threw it down yesterday at about 6.15pm, enough that it would have put the barbecue out if I hadn't stood over it with an umbrella.

At the moment it's 18.7C outside with heavy cloud, and a steady south-westerly with stronger gusts - enough to slam windows shut.

I’ve not worn a jacket out in Manchester for months, you will probably get rained on though so you will need to think about that

where you staying? Also please don’t listen to suggestions (they will come) about going to Didsbury for a walk

Why on earth bother asking then? 🤷‍♀️

How old are your teens? I absolutely love Manchester for the nightlife - not sure it’s the best city destination for daytime tourist stuff with teens - but I hope others will come along and prove me wrong.

Weather - why not just check the weather apps, and see what the temp is meant to be, and work out if that is warm or cool to you .. and therefore if you need a jacket.

Wandering about with Teens, depends what you like .. plenty of shopping .. prob Northern Quarter / Afflecks - or if more designer stuff is your thing Harvey Nicks / Selfridges (you could even get the Tram up to the Trafford Centre)

theresbeautyinwindysun · 28/06/2026 15:39

Reason I asked is the weather forecast constantly says rainy here when it’s usually warm with a tiny shower now and then - pessimistic forecasting. So I was hoping was the same situation.

Have to say I was so grateful for the rain this morning I went out in my T shirt in it 😂. I’m a jacket person and not even I think you need one at the moment but it’s due to get a little cooler (thank heavens 🥵) so maybe. Teens definitely Afflecks - that’s a classic.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 28/06/2026 16:11

Currently 22 and warm, forecast rain didnt arrive, quite warm and humid overnight

theresbeautyinwindysun · 28/06/2026 17:43

Thanks so much. This is what I hoped!
