Anfield stadium not allowing people to take suncream to concerts?

So Anfield haven't been allowing people to take their own sunscreen into the Foo Fighters concerts.

They say that there are stations in the stadium but I wouldn't want to use some random sunscreen that will probably be all gunked up after the first 50 people have used it. I wouldn't trust it or the ingredients. My daughter is also VERY fussy about textures and sunscreen is a trigger. Plus, if it's hot and sweaty, I would need to reapply it which would potentially mean missing part of the concert I've paid a fortune for and losing my spot.

I get them not wanting to allow big bottles of factor 50 in in case people are trying to smuggle alcohol or whatever but surely that can be negated by asking people to decant into clear bottles?

I went to a gig tonight with a sealed bottle of water. Had to open it, pour out the contents, and then refill it just inside the door, about 2 metres from where I poured it out. The whole world's gone mad I tell you

I'd be fuming. I'm planning on taking sparkling water as I hate still plain water.

That just sounds crazy to me, trying to keep your water in a bottle without a lid all day

It’s not all day. You enter at 5pm and there are refill points inside. At the Etihad for Take That you could only take an empty bottle in to be filled once inside.

Pamelaaaaaar · 27/06/2026 22:52

Its what, like 3 hours maximum? In the evening, as the sun is going down? Just put it on before you go in, it’s a stadium, surely it’s partly covered anyway.

I'd heard that there's no such thing as a once a day sunscreen, not in reality when it comes to protection.

I've been using once a sunscreen for a few years (Boots soltan once). It's labelled as lasting 8 hours, but I tend to reapply after 5 or 6 because I'm pale and freckly and burn easily. I've never burnt wiith it on, and much prefer reapplying after 5 hours than every 2.

Letsnotargue · 27/06/2026 22:57

The first email on Tuesday did say you can’t bring sunscreen, and to use the stuff provided. I guess they got some very quick feedback as this was closely followed by another email saying you can bring small bottles of sun cream.

Water was available at all of the bars. I was expecting water stations where you could fill up, but we had no bother getting tap water from the bars. There were water stations on the pitch. We were told we could bring in a sealed 500ml bottle of water and nobody touched it - certainly didn’t take the lid off.

They weren’t very fussy about the size of bags - mine is slightly bigger than A5 and nobody batted an eyelid.

It was very hot on Thursday, but I probably
saw the least stupid rule following of any gig I’ve been to in ages.

Yes, they can say what they like but the skin experts say it's not reliable. I only know because I bought a one a day and burned! So I read about it. Too many variables, clothing, touching skin, sweat. So it rubs off etc.

Yup. Advertising it as once a day is banned in Australia for good reason!

Well they can’t actually. Not sure if they are allowed to say that. But it’s true in my experience. Sure if I am literally sunbathing ALL DAY on a beach, in and out of water regularly - then I would apply more than once. But that’s a real test on sunscreen. I wouldn’t do this with anything but p20. I do trust it because I have worn in for decades and know it’s limits on my skin.

OP is going from when? Say 4pm earliest?
I can absolutely guarantee you if OP puts on p20 factor 50 plus liberally then they 100% will not burn. Absolutely sure of that.

DelilahBucket · 28/06/2026 01:27

I don't know where you got this information from but I've been to the gig today and information went out three days ago that states you can take your own suncream max size 100ml. It was in an email titled "important information".

Maddy70 · 28/06/2026 01:38

Surely we know to outvot before. Nothing starts before sundown

OnlyGarden · 28/06/2026 08:28

They changed their policy since the email they sent me. So I didn't make this up. What an odd thing to suggest. The email says:
Thank you for your enquiry. We do not allow sunscreen into the venue for security reasons. However there will be free sunscreen stations around the venue. Then the standard copy of what you can/can't bring in.

Why would Anfield staff be personally affronted because I moaned about a policy the place they work for implemented?

The one day sunscreen don't work. At least not on me. Plus I'll be hot and sweaty so they'd wear off anyway.

"Then don't go". Thanks for that nugget of wisdom. You comment really contributed to the discussion.

Anyway, all sorted.

Some venues don't let you take bags in, only the teeny tiniest ones which re big enough for a phone and key.

We saw Taylor Swift at Anfield and they confiscated so much it was ridiculous and then they tried to police.
How quickly people could run to the front.
Mini Hitler’s they were shame. They weren’t quite so militant about getting people to drink water. The woman was on the stage pointing into people passing out in the audience that the security guards have missed.

You are wrong.

I burn very, very easily regardless of the brand of lotion. No way would I not burn in 5hrs under direct sun.

Howdidlifegetsobusy · 28/06/2026 09:01

Apply before you leave, and take under 100ml decanted to top up?
can also wear long sleeves, hat etc. slightly over dramatic for an evening concert (yes it’s midsummer, but the shade comes over quickly).
fake sunscreen bottles have been used for many years to smuggle in spirits.

hahabahbag · 28/06/2026 09:03

Venues have to be strict due to idiots out there who use plastic containers as missiles. For future reference if you’re booking a stadium gig I try to opt for Cardiff as they close the roof a lot of the time, or book the west side if in the seating as it’s in the shade. I apply sunscreen at 4pm when I park the car and wear a cotton long sleeve top and trousers, never burnt despite very pale skin (and would burn without good sunscreen and clothes) water stations are usually available, certainly are in Cardiff

ThatMauveMaker · 28/06/2026 16:51

We went last night and we had notification a 500ml water bottle and sunscreen were permitted. It was ridiculously hot at Anfield, I wouldn't have coped there on the Thursday when temps were higher.

We went on Saturday too. We were in the Kenny Dalglish stand so in full sun until the Foos came on. We were given bottles of water whilst queing for merch and were sat next to a tap on pitch side so topped up numerous times, I don't think I've ever drunk so much water at a gig. Didn't actually see any sunscreen stations but I took in sunscreen thankfully as they changed the rules. For those saying just apply before you go, this would not have been enough for a lot of people especially on the Thursday, Staurday we ere blessed with the occasional cloud. I topped up three times to avoid burning and went back inside between the support acts to shelter as the heat was intense. On the whole really well organised and a great afternoon/evening. They made the right decision relaxing the sunscreen and water rules.

You’d be drinking it though, not just carrying it around. Most gigs aren’t all day either.

I drank mine, then got a glass of water from the bar and refilled it.

AutumnLover1990 · 30/06/2026 07:25

That's awful. We are seeing Metallica at the London stadium this weekend and we are allowed to take travel size suncream. Get an all day one and wear light long sleeved tops and sunhats.

Ive never been to a concert where I havent managed to get something (normally food) in that is supposedly not allowed. They are often not that thorough checking bags

They're not thorough at all 😱People were openly smoking week and snorting coke at one gig recently. 😱

Of course, those of us who go to football matches at these places are used to the rules such as taking the top of water bottles.

Itfelt very strange at Take That when the bloke next to me was drinking a plasti glass of beer in his seat. I told him so and turns out he was a City season ticket holder who also found it a strange experience being allowed. (There is a strict no alcohol in sight of the pitch rule at matches)

I've had this happen too many times so always take a spare lid!💡

yep spare lid in my sock always works!!!

Fizbosshoes · 30/06/2026 11:28

Yup ive taken spare lids to stadiums since the early 2000s!

Comefromaway · 30/06/2026 12:33

At Chelsea they didn't take the lid off my water bottle I took in on entry but when they gave me a free one at the bar at half time (long story involving pre pid food that never arrived) they insisted on taking the top off that one. Go figure!

Similar happened at Wembley
The amount of water that got knocked over bags was insane
The cynical part of me wonders whether its a safety precaution, or a sales ploy because more drinks are likely to get spilled, and then need replaced
