What to do with my child-free weekend?

I know - what a 1st world problem. Kids with their dad all weekend and should have been away with a friend ago had to cancel for personal reasons so I’m suddenly free.

Can’t decide how to spend this weekend - temp high tomorrow but forecast says mixed.

Been a stressful week and I have a medical conditions that has flared up so don’t want to do too much. Kids will be back 4pm Sunday.

Should I:
Do overtime (can do from home - minimum of 4 hours)
Gym
Hike/long walk
Paint bathroom (desperately needs doing)
See family
Chill

How do I maximise most of the weekend without exhausting myself but feeling like it was a weekend well spent? It’s like I’m overwhelmed with indecision.

Hike

I would do sweet fuck all productive after the heat this week. Nice food with good tv, cold drinks and (hopefully) undisturbed sleep.

Britneyfan · 26/06/2026 18:39

Definitely don’t do overtime or try to paint in this heat! Especially if you’re unwell. Pick one or maximum two of those things, whatever is most likely to leave you feeling recharged and relaxed when the kids come back. And if really all you want to do is flop in front of the TV with a takeaway or get an early night then so be it and enjoy! Probably what I’d do in your shoes, but if I had the physical, mental and social energy I’d see family then chill for a bit (or vice versa) and go for a hike on Sunday when it’s cooled down a bit more.

Chill first.
Then exercise Sunday AM when it's cool.
Bit of self care, whatever that looks like after.
Then maybe some sat down jobs - food orders, etc.

But don't underestimate the need to rest when you get the chance.

Thanks - rest is really attractive right now.
i love walking and feel like i need to move my body but taking it easy I think is the way forward.
