Will I fit comfortably in an EasyJet seat at size 16/18?

I am travelling on a plane next month, the first time in about 7 years. I am really worried about not being able to fit in the seat properly and end up encroaching on other people and having to ask for a seatbelt extender.

I am 5 ft 4 inches tall and weight is just under 13 stone. I know that I am obese, I have lost 9 stone over 2 years and am still losing weight. I am currently a size 16/18. Big tummy. It's an EasyJet plane.

Would be really grateful for other peoples' experiences. Last time I travelled I think that I weighed more but not sure how much. I really have lost the ability to view my body in a realistic way size wise.

Yes, you'll be fine, especially if you choose a window or aisle seat.

Anna713 · 26/06/2026 11:33

Yes you will absolutely be able to fit in an Easyjet seat. You will not need a seat extender. I am a similar weight to you although I'm 5 foot 8 and I have never had the slightest problem. You will be fine. Congratulations on losing weight and enjoy your trip.

Hoppinggreen · 26/06/2026 11:33

I am 5ft 4 and weigh more than that and I have always managed to fit in plane seats across many airlines
It could depend on where you carry the weight though, I am in proportion wheras a freind who actually weighs less than me struggled and had to get an extender as she is very bottom heavy

You’ll be absolutely fine. Enjoy your trip!

Yes

Muchtoomuchtodo · 26/06/2026 11:35

It does depend on the seatbelt, some seem shorter than others. If you need an extender just ask for one. Nobody minds and you need to be safe and comfortable.

Enjoy your holiday x

Don't be daft, of course you will!

Oreosareawful · 26/06/2026 11:39

You'll be absolutely fine!

Pennyplant19 · 26/06/2026 11:40

You’ll be fine. I was ok when I was a size 20 and 5’3

Isobel201 · 26/06/2026 11:44

I fitted on a plane at size 22/24, 5 ft 4 and 18 stone. forget about what the BMI score says, you've done really well to lose the weight.

bestestwestest · 26/06/2026 12:05

Comfortably ? No 😂 They are absolutely excruciatingly uncomfortable my left bum cheek hurt for 2 days ! Easily ? Yes my husband is 6 foot 5 and 18 stone you will easily fit do not worry 🥰

TorturedParentsDepartment · 26/06/2026 12:08

As someone who's lost a huge wodge of weight and gone on Easyjet flights before and after.

Before - size 28 -needed an extender - was not comfortable and felt my size getting down the aisles to board.
After(ish - still a work in progress) - size 20 - belt does up fine (unless you get one that's frayed and they've chopped right down to fix it). Seats still suck but that's low cost airlines for you.

thetinsoldier · 26/06/2026 12:25

Congrats on your weight loss! That’s incredible.

You will fit in the seat no problem.

sillypossumsmum · 26/06/2026 12:35

You can also get your own extender if you don’t feel comfortable asking for one but you might not need it, they are about $15

Beekman · 26/06/2026 12:37

You’ll be fine OP and well done on the weightloss.

I very much doubt you will need on but don’t buy your own extender, they’re illegal.

Twiglets1 · 26/06/2026 12:38

You won’t need an extender OP I’m a size 16 and similar height and there’s lots of room. Agree that the middle seat is the most squashed. Extra leg room seats are generally a bit more spacious if available.

Gizimajob · 26/06/2026 12:41

You’ll be fine. If you were 6ft4 rather than 5ft4 you’d have more to worry about- but it can still be done!

BlackCatBea · 26/06/2026 13:04

I fitted on a virgin plane at 21st one with no extender needed. You’ll be absolutely fine at 13 stone

You're not THAT big! Of course you'll be fine!

oliviaAustin · 26/06/2026 13:13

You’ll fit but it won’t be comfortable. My hips touched either side of the seat at a size 10.

Yes they trim them when they fray so ‘easyJet’ has nothing to do with it, even within the same row the window seat might be longer than the aisle if the aisle has previously required maintenance. You have know of knowing really until you’re in your seat.

But I wouldn’t have thought at your size you’ll need one OP. If you do, just ask the crew who will be professional and do not care. Don’t be tempted to buy your own as a PP has suggested: whilst there’s a chance they might not notice, it isn’t actually allowed and risks a far bigger scene if you’re told to stop using it than just discretely asking as you board. Still highly doubt you’ll need one though.

changedusername190 · 26/06/2026 13:40

You will be fine so enjoy your trip.

FlipFlopZebra · 26/06/2026 13:46

I’m size 16 although 5ft 9

Youll be fine and comfortable I only ever travel easyjet (both work and holidays). Never had an issue with my hips touching either side.

DandelionClockSeeds · 26/06/2026 14:06

Size 16/18 and several inches taller than you.
No problem at all.
Never been anywhere near needing a seatbelt extender.

Canifit · 26/06/2026 14:24

Thank you so much for all your responses. It's very hard to view my body objectively - I am so used to absolutely knowing that I can't fit my body into certain spaces that it's taking a long time to get used to the new reality.
