Saharan sand reaching UK

Has anyone spotted the sand reaching UK this morning?
It looked rather impressive between Newport and Bristol south horizon this morning. Pale orange to greyist hue.

I never imagined that we will get that much sand here in UK.
It is actually the largest sand cloud I have seen in my life (lived in Spain for 26 years)
I can imagine how the cars and streets will look once it rains!

It's a small world and we're all connected.

You can check satellite images here
https://meteologix.com/uk/satellite/aust-agder/satellite-dust-5min/20260626-0415z.html

The current one shows that it’s moved on but it looked pretty huge. You can go back in 5 min increments to see how it looked earlier on.

We last had a sand cloud a couple of years ago I think? It’s always fascinating to see the sky looking orangey!

In Cornwall we get several Saharan dust events every year.

I have watched a documentary about the Saharan sand reaching the Amazon and how it carries phosphorous, which allows the Amazon to be so fertile.
They were considering the irrigation of parts of the Sahara and how the models predicted that if the Sahara is transformed into an Oasis, the Amazon would turn into.... a desert! It is fascinating!

But what I am talking about is not a0 few grains cartied on continental currents well above the ground level, day after day.
There was a clear sand front on the whole of the south horizon during my trip.
I know it reaches Spain and even parts of France at times, so it makes sense that some of it reaches Cornwall on particularly big events. But this is the very first time I see it on the Bristol Channel.

Looking at the satellite images what I have seen is just the very weak tail end of a huge (I mean huge) sand cloud, now over the North of England/ Scotland.
And another one is moving towards us from the North of France.
I think this is due to continue into tomorrow.
Sunsets are meant to be quite different, golden apparently.

My car in northern England was covered in 'dust' this morning. I don't know if it was sand, but we've just had an almighty storm, so I'll need to check what it looks like now.

It does happen from time to time.

Don’t we just. It’s been all over my car since it rained. But as you say, happens quite often.
