Car insurance message - what does it mean!

I received a renewal quote on 1st June, have a protected no claims and not made any except about a year ago an advisory note to them that a car had hit me from behind. No damage and no claim although it was on my portal as a claim.
I’ve just had this message and can’t log in as it just says ‘error’ on the portal.

We've noticed you've had a claim or a new conviction has been added to your licence since your renewal invite was sent. We have updated your renewal quote to include this, an email will be with you shortly.

what does it mean? ?? No speeding fines, no claims, no contact with them.

I don't think you can really know until you contact them.

It does sound like something has been linked to your insurance. This could even be your old claim note generating an automated email, sometimes I fire off notifications by mistake when I am doing admin.

Have you made a claim recently on a different kind of insurance that might be linked?

No claims on any insurance, none of them are with the same companies. I’m sure I haven’t been convicted of anything in my absence, post is reliable. The last ‘claim’ was about 18 months ago when I let them know I’d been hit from behind, but I didn’t pursue anything. It’s down as a claim. No speeding tickets have arrived. No bumps or knocks with other cars.

It’s weird it’s come at this time, feels automated maybe

That advisory note will be counted as a claim I think - I had similar with buildings insurance.

catslovehairties · 24/06/2026 06:36

Ring them and ask what’s going on - nobody here can tell you.

I’ve had a new renewal quote come through and it’s exactly the same as the one on 1st June. I’m going to have to message.

Surely all it means is whatever new information they have hasn’t impacted your renewal?

The wonderful world of insurance. "So you kindly informed us that you allowed someone to run into the back of your car? Please allow us to increase the cost of your insurance. You're welcome"

I hope I'm wrong but I bet I'm not.

But there is no new information, that’s what’s worried me, what if someone has mistaken me for someone else?

I agree with @Imlyingandthatsthetruth. They use any excuse to try to get more money from you.

tinyviolinforme · 24/06/2026 08:41

Oh so maybe they didn’t factor in the no claim bump and now they have?

Ok yes the ‘claim’ in November 2024 has been added. The wording was awful though. Receiving an email suggesting a conviction or claim since 1st June at 1am was not helpful.
