What is everyone up to today while keeping out of the heat?

What's everyone up to?

Very lucky I don't need to work. I got up early, so have done most of the essentials - hoovered downstairs, washing on and out, cooking a few things, so I can avoid having oven/hotplates on next few days and went on a short bike ride incorporating picking up a few essentials. I do need to clean the carpet due to a cat misdemeanor!

Optional things - clean laminate flooring, we both have a free drink at local pub to be used today, sort out savings accounts, mini workout with weights.

Ideally I'll keep out of the heat, so will indulge myself and finish my book, maybe watch Eastbourne tennis (tennis) fan.

Carrying on with my day. Exactly as I normally would. Because I'm not a wet lettuce constantly moaning about the heat. (That's a general comment, based on some of the ridiculous posts over the last 2 days, not aimed at you OP)

DidntLikeTheEnding · 23/06/2026 10:27

Working. We can't all sit on our bums watching tennis!

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 23/06/2026 10:29

I was up early and am pottering around in the shade. Food is in the slow cooker and will make a salad later. I put washing out over night so it doesn't get crispy in the heat so will do that later on. Doing very little today as I don't like it this hot but it's nice in the shade at the moment and we have a breeze. I've watered the pots at the front of the house and have swept the drive. Rainied all night here so the garden is ok. Have a good day OP 😊

Gamerlady · 23/06/2026 10:39

Off to do the food shop then work as normal. Make the most of it as soon be cold again

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/06/2026 10:39

Should really be going to bed, just done 3 nights shifts.

EarlyRun · 23/06/2026 10:40

Some snippy answers. Must be the heat. 😜

I’ve been for an early run followed by a dog walk before it gets too hot. I’m working at home but thankfully we have air con units so the house stays cool. Our cleaner is coming and then we have a bbq with friends this evening. Then a last walk with the dogs at about 10pm.

catslovehairties · 23/06/2026 10:43

I’m a dog walker so I’m losing money and sweating my arse off doing home visits at the same time 😫

Sometimesitsmyownfault · 23/06/2026 10:43

Swimming in my pool. Floating in the pool. Reading in the pool.

Tiddlywinks63 · 23/06/2026 10:54

Not a lot here!
The dogs were walked at 5am, I tidied up generally, had a phone consultation with a I’d a bit of embroidery, enjoyed scrambled eggs on toast with another cup of tea and ham now faffing on MN 😊
Plenty of food in the fridge, so it’s a help yourself day food-wise.

Echobelly · 23/06/2026 10:55

I usually go into the office once a week but going in today and Thursday just for the aircon!

CointreauVersial · 23/06/2026 10:57

In my beautifully air-conditioned office, feeling coooool as a cucumber.

CaringCucumber · 23/06/2026 10:57

I'm going to the gym as off today. I work a lot on weekends as shift worker. Gym has air con. It isn't mad hot here though.

How funny I followed your post 🤣 I just name changed.

MyGirlJ · 23/06/2026 10:59

Working from home, next to my tower fan. Although I plan to go into the office for the rest of the week, so I can benefit from the air con on the hottest days this week. Luckily our office car park is underground and cool, so my journeys should be pretty comfortable as well.

Hotafternoon · 23/06/2026 11:01

Meeting friend at beach hut at midday, stay till about 4pm then on way home going into garden centre to order my garden furniture.

It'll probably rain for weeks once it arrives

Lottapianos · 23/06/2026 11:01

Went to the gym for a walk on the treadmill at 7am 😁 it's nice and cold in there

Now working from home - cool breeze coming in at the moment, although the afternoon may be rough. Lunch and dinner made and in the fridge. Magnums in the freezer for later.

I'm in London and the 39 degrees that was forecast a couple of days ago seems to have dropped to a max of 35. Still disgusting weather, but we'll cope for a few days

RudolphTheReindeer · 23/06/2026 11:12

I'm off today and will be doing nothing. I have to take the kids out later but in the car and just doing pasta for tea. I might do a wash later and hang it out overnight and bring it in really early tomorrow. I'll be at work later in the week doing a physical job trying not to die so I don't feel remotely guilty about today.

youalright · 23/06/2026 11:15

Sunbathing listening to music. Its gorgeous out here

Chipsahoy · 23/06/2026 11:26

A beautiful day in ne Scotland. Highs of 26c today which doesn’t happen often here.
DH is working from the garden, with a desk set up under a tree. Smallest children are in school and oldest one still in bed now exams are over.
I have cleaned the windows and got two loads of washing on the line and did some gardening. Fed and watered chickens cats and an early dog walk.
Now taking half an hour to crochet int en shade with a cup of tea.

I do not envy those in the 30s today, I lived in south until a few years ago and those temps are so so difficult. Might be record breaking this week. Try to keep cool people.

henlake7 · 23/06/2026 11:31

Lucky enough to be off work this week.
Ive walked the dog first thing, done a load of laundry and gone out for a walk (8,000 steps today!). Will now be retreating into the shade for the rest of the day with a good book.
Honestly the heat isnt bothering me too much but that humidity is just awful, it was like sauna out there this morning!

Wre · 23/06/2026 11:33

Swim in the sea first thing this morning, washing out and now wfh (coffee break time).

GameOfJones · 23/06/2026 11:36

I got up early, watered the garden pots and got the washing hung out. It's already dry so I'll bring it in shortly.

Did the school run and I've been to the gym which was actually quite cool. Just home having an iced coffee now and then I'll have to head back to school as DDs' primary is closing at 12pm for the next three days due to the heat.

I've put the parasol up so we can eat lunch in the shade and then I'm going to try to persuade them to have some quiet reading time in the peak heat of the afternoon. Mainly because I want to keep reading my book! 🤣

The fridge is stacked with ready to eat cold food: salads, fruit, cooked meat, hard boiled eggs, quiche etc and we've got plenty of crisps and ice lollies so we'll be just fine. The next couple of days will be harder as DH and I are both working.

clearlyy · 23/06/2026 11:36

I am at work.

Goodness envious are we? You have zero idea of each persons circumstances. Some will work shifts or on annual leave. Others will be home with children or carers. Some retired or have a long term illness.
I’ve worked all my life from age 16. I don’t work now and have very real reasons for not doing so.
We are all at different stages in life.
