How do you cope with housework when it's hot?

I have a chronic pain disorder and also a condition that causes overheating and the inability to regulate my temperature. I suffer hugely during this weather.
Atm it's hard enough to do the basics - laundry, cooking etc - whilst melting/trying to stay cool and just the thought of hoovering etc and proper cleaning is horrible! How do you cope?

First post nailed it. Do as little as possible.

And the little bit I do do is at 7am.

The house can stay a bit dirty for a few days. or do it early in the morning when it's cool.
Ive got a neurological condition, sometimes it flares up and I can't work, cook or clean for a few days. We manage around it and I've learnt Radical Acceptance very quickly.

I have MS and heat flares me up so have a cleaner for this exact reason. She’s a life saver. She knows I’m unwell so would struggle to keep on top of the house without her so tries really hard to make sure she never has to cancel on me.

It’s boiling today and she came at 8am to make sure it wasn’t too hot she couldn’t do the house.

I have lupus and Addisons and really struggle in the heat. I get everything done as early as possible, before I get showered and dressed for the day, so I can then have a cool ish shower and get dressed and know I’m done for the day. Today I hoovered, mopped, washed and changed the sofa covers (long overdue) and then did a few jobs in the garden. All done by 10.30am and just been for a little walk into town and back and been on the sofa watching tv with the fan on since then.

What exactly is all this housework anyway, surely most things can be left a few days, it's only food stuff and washing up/dishwasher that needs doing daily and putting a wash on

I am the only person who only hoovers and cleans when it looks like it needs doing/we have guests?

There is no need to do any housework this week OP!!!

No!

OhThePotential · 22/06/2026 17:09

I just don’t do any. It seems a bit of an odd question really.

We are on holiday but if I was home I'd be doing no housework save loading dishwasher

Parky04 · 22/06/2026 17:17

I've done bugger all but DH has done 2 loads of washing and cut the grass. He plans to clean the bathroom tomorrow. I also plan to do bugger all for the rest of the week!

BurntBroccoli · 22/06/2026 17:19

I did mine today, tiny two bed bungalow. I started at 6am and finished at 4pm. Little and often also did six loads of washing. Jus5 go slow and take breaks

Thanks everyone for all the excellent advice and solidarity. I've managed laundry today, changing the bedding later. I went shopping and sweated - but survived!
